Topic: I Really Need Some Advice

Hello my dear friends.  I think am in need of some advice here.

In the past eight months I've lost quite a bit of weight. I went from about  153 to about 128.  My family has now told me they are concerned about me being underweight, even my pcp is suggesting gaining a few lbs.  Even though my BMI is still mid-range (20.8) I am pretty boney. Logically I KNOW a few lbs on would look better, but the idea of actually working to GAIN weight is ...... well.......horrifying. For my entire adolescent and adult life I have had to lose weight, Now I am supposed to gain??? I got on the scale today and I weighed about 129, I am retaining water and I know that's what it is but it made me angry. I'm kind of at a loss here ya know.

To Our Yvonne.

While she congradulates and supports us It seems that we have forgotten her NINE year Surgiversary. 3/30/2001! You are one of the furthest out on here that I know of, and one of the most successful. You are a TRUE inspiration to me and Many others.  I Thank my Lucky Stars for you Y.  A VERY Belated "Happy Surgiversary To You Y"

Here's the poem.  I drew the picture.  I don't know if it's fair that I'm sharing this with you but I really haven't shared this with many....probably because a lot of people don't understand how much I love my animals.

In case you can't read it:

I shall walk in the sun alone
whose warm heat you loved in the window.
I shall sleep alone,
Would that your gentle paw
could stay my moving pen just one more time.
I shall see beauty,
but not so sweet as the unselfish loyalty
with which you loved me.
I shall fill my days
but I shall not, cannot ever forget.
Sleep soft sweet Sheba
for while I live, you shall not die.

Oh sweetie....I am so sorry.  My fur babies ARE my children and my heart hurts for you so much.  Perhaps the surgery was a little bit of a distraction but we still have to work through our grief.

So glad you didn't get a tube! I had one for 3 weeks and you could have heard it a mile away when I screamed for joy when they took that thing out.  You did crack me up when you said you felt like you'd been hit by a truck and then remembered you had drugs.  The ON-Q is a miracle invention and I can't believe Diana's didn't work.  I had a major mishap when I had surgery because they forgot the PCA pump for 8 hours!  Long bad story that wouldn't happen these days.

Again, please know how sorry I am about your baby....there are no words to help.  I wrote a poem when I lost one of my babies.  I'll find it later....it will probably make people cry because it still makes me cry and I wrote it in 1980.

You might not have buyer's remorse.  I didn't!  I was so happy to have the surgery that nothing was getting me down.  So glad you're doing better.
hugs, Y

To my dear friend and love Gina,
I'm sorry I am so late.  I have been sick and basically sleeping for a week and look what I missed.  I will never forget the beautiful post you wrote to me on my 7th surgiversary.  It was such a special post that I keep a copy.  When I was given the opportunity to do the WLS Journeys Show I said GINA!!  I wanted you because you can talk about regain and because you're my friend.  And for those that haven't seen it yet, here's the interview I did with Gina.

Not only does she know what she's talking about, she makes me laugh out loud.  Thank you Gina for being my friend and my support.  You're the one that comes looking for me when I isolate and you've always come to my talks no matter what.  Thank you for taking time to stop by here and participate because there are so few of us this far out and everyone needs to know we exist.  So even though I'm late....happy HAPPY 8 year surgiversary.
I love you my friend, Y

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!! Good for you!! Isn't that pump amazing??  I have no doubt you'll be right back to that 12 minute mile in no time!  I'm glad you're going to live your life but don't go away completely because sometimes you need to keep your head in a good group so you can do this thing in a such a way that you are a success.  I'm so glad you're here and you're right, 4 or 5 hours is a lot on the computer but check back often OK?  I can't believe you walked a mile already!!! Congrats and welcome!!
hugs, Y

Topic: Avoid martyrdom
Avoid martyrdom.

How many times have you sat down with friends at a dinner party for a lovely meal and someone, who has never had a weight problem, goes on and on about how they can't eat this or that because they are on a diet? As a result, at least some people at the table felt self conscious about filling their plate and enjoying their meal. Not only did the "dieter" spoil the meal, but they openly insulted the host by judging the dinner unfit to eat.

The middle of a dinner party is not the best time to share your personal choices and to become a martyr for your new lifestyle. You can take your smaller portions and not draw attention to them. If someone asks you why you took so little, just say you want to sample everything, and then change the subject. Be a rounded conversationalist, and people will remember the interesting person they sat next to as opposed to the person who made them feel bad about themselves.

Action for the day: Reflect on ways to be interesting around people instead of focusing everyone's attention on your food choices.
