Please share your absolutes.

Have some absolutes.

The trouble with having an overeating problem is you can't swear off food completely. You have to eat. In addition, you are around all kinds of food all the time. It's hard to resist. While there are plenty of gray areas when it comes to the WLS lifestyle, you can have some absolutes.

To give yourself some freedom over uncertainty, consider selecting a few foods or behaviors to which you will apply absolute rules. Be absolute about not eating refined sweets and carbohydrates, for example. Or, never drink soda. Or, walk every day.

Action for the day: Pick one thing you can be absolute about that will benefit your health. Write a contract with yourself (and be sure to sign it) stating what you will always (or never) do in support of your WLS goals.

Mines is I absolutely do intentional exercise  a minimum of 5 days a week and 45 min to 60 minutes per day.

Please share yours with me.  I need some more absolutes I know and I am just interested in knowing what is one or some of your absolutes since you had your surgery.
I am working on making fried foods an absolute NO-NO also.

I absolutely will not eat over 8 grams of sugar in anything.  I have not had anything sweet like cake, candy, pie, etc in almost ten years.  Above all though is weighing every morning and never allowing myself to go over 5 pounds over my "line the sand" weight.  It's actually closer to 2 or 3 pounds.  It is what works for me.  I know if I don't go 5 pounds over I won't go any more than that.
I find it much easier to absolutely not do something instead of doing something a little bit.  There is a lot of wiggle room in how much is a "little bit".  Like I've said before.  100% is easy, 99% not so much.  Even though I could eat fried stuff I just don't anymore.  I have lost my taste for it since I haven't done it in so long.  Again I totally believe that you lose your craving for things if you go long enough without them.  Great post!
hugs, Y

Thank you for your response!  In the last 2 weeks I have went back to weighing myself every single day.  I did it for a year before I had surgery and about 4 years afterwards and I stopped.  I don't know why I stopped but I did.  After these last few months of ups and downs I realized I needed to go back to weighing myself every single day and journeling my everything put in my mouth. I know when I weigh myself everyday I have that number in my head and it when I want something unhealthy I don't eat it because I tell myself it will make me fat.

I needed to read this post today.  I used to not anything over 10 grams of sugar as recommended by my WLS surgeons team but I stopped doing that too.  From this day forward I also am going back to that.  And the ironic thing about this Y is I have never been a real sweets person. I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS POST BABE!!

November is year end at my job so I have been too busy to post but people still respond to my post and that is so helpful to me because I can get ideas, encouragement, etc.  Since I posted regularly almost everyday someone emails me.   And remember when you suggested that too me over 6 months ago!!  You are awesome and what you give back helps so many and me included.  You reached out to me about your group and that got me on my way again!!!

I don't know how I can ever repay you for all the support you have given me since March.

HUGS,
Molly

My dearest Molly,

You have repaid me a million times over for your participation on this forum!! I can always depend on you and JEllen to be here.  Traci has been so good too.  It is truly family here and I love it when someone drops back in that we haven't seen in a while.  I have a hard time recognizing some of them!

Also Molly it makes my day when you repeat to me something I shared with you earlier and you remember it!  I just LOVE it.  That means my words were not wasted.  I think it is very important for you to weigh every day especially where you are in trying to get back on track.  I would also suggest you write down your weight in your journal as well.  You'd be surprised how that helps.  By the way....one of our members (nurse Gina) had a 70 pound regain. She is about to hit her 9 years surgiversary.  She is probably within 10 pounds of goal for the first time ever.  She lost most of her weight, regained 70 and has now gotten that off plus more and she's about to celebrate 9 years. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE!  I'm soooooooo proud of her...just like I'm proud of you.  Once you get that regain off you have to stay right here with us so that we can keep you right where you need to be.  I know November is tough for you so don't feel like you have to answer so much.  I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and tell your mom not to tempt you too much!

Big Hugs, Y
