WLS Success-through Powerful Positive Attitudes
Stalked by Pizza
Yesterday went out after some auditions and the "gang" wanted to go in on a pizza, so I did. I wasn't happy though about my decision afterward. I can't possibly eat more than one piece which is WAY different than before having WLS but still I haven't reached goal and too many days of going off plan isn't going to get me there.
Today between shows at the theater (community theater, not professional) they bought us Pizza - but my friend and I went out for Cold Fusion protein shakes; we planned ahead. At a late afternoon baby shower later they had guess what? Multiple pizzas all over the table - yum -and delicious looking cupcakes with thick frosting - my favorite. I didn't eat any of it. I had ****tail shrimp and veggies. Pizza seems to be stalking me.
Today was hard. Like running a race or something. Running from the wrong food choices I guess.
What are you running from?

Holy Cow--Pizza IS stalking you. Watch out!! It sounds like you were very wise though and made excellent choices by pre-planning Cold Fusion as well as going for shrimp ****tail and veggies. Way to go!You should be proud of yourself...the cupcakes with thick frosting too...and yet you turned and ran. Nice job!
I'm running from snacking...had an unplanned snack (ate crackers with a co-worker) at school yesterday that I could have done without. It was at the end of the day--more than 4 hrs after lunch, I was hungry but it was almost time to go home and I should have held off for supper. Snacking is not what I need to do! I've stalled this week and I think it's because I have deviated from my normal plan...time to get back on board.

Yes, those snacks that sneak up. I have had way to many "little" snacks" - a few chips here and there, couple of fries, fried shrimp, etc. in the last 2-3 weeks. BUT I think I am now ready to get back to the serious business of weight loss. At least I haven't gained any - which makes me glad to think that once I get to whatever goal I choose - a little freedom in eating won't necessarily mean I put the weight back on. Yesterday was my first "perfect" day in a long time.
My sleeved friend Kelly - I am working/playing at the theater these days but could get together for a protein laced coffee next Friday.
Also, I invite you to click on "Join" this forum - after a short period - you will hear back that you are in. You embody the exact type of attitude required for the group and I'd love to see you post here. I joined so I could start a discussion/enter a discussion and KNOW I'd not be attacked for whatever reason. Sometimes it is just nice to relax.

When pizza is stalking me, I stalk right back, and leave the crust behind. I eat toppings only. And I can only have the toppings from one large or two pretty small pieces. It's cheese and tomato sauce and herbs and a little meat. But I don't really deny myself.
Although frankly - shrimp ****tail sounds heavenly. I'd rather have that than fast food pizza toppings anytime.......!

I used to eat only the toppings but the plump golden crusts call out to me - "eat me I'm just too delicious and you know you have earned me".
So, I'm thinking I have to just stay away from the whole darn piece.
I love having lost weight. That feels so good.
I don't completely deny myself either - but recently I was giving in to just one too many treats.
Yes, let's have some shrimp ****tail!

Well god love ya. It does seem like the pizza was haunting you!!
That was one of those food items that literally was not allowed in my house for over a year after surgery. I love love love pizza and just couldn't stand the thought/smell of it in my house.
Now 2 1/2 years out I still don't have it around too often because it is a trigger food for me. I will say that when I do have the urge our local pizza shop will make a small carbless (no crust) pizza for me, loaded with protein/veggies and I usually share it with one of my bariatric friends and it is quite yummy!!
Me I run from crackers.. They are a HUGE trigger food, not allowed in my house, at my office and at times I won't even walk down the cracker isle.. :)

I think it is very interesting that you at times won't even walk down the cracker isle. I appreciate reading that. I need to know that successful WLS folks have to work to keep on track - it just doesn't come inherently with the territory.
I should just stay out of the ice cream isle.
People who don't do WLS have no idea (I know I didn't) that those of us who have had WLS STILL have to make the right decisions over and over again -
A no crust pizza??? Neat.

I run from anything that's in my house. When I am anywhere else I can choose what I eat or don't eat and I make a conscious effort to only go somewhere I can eat. Because food stalks me at home I CANNOT have it in my house. When it gets late at night and I do the old "open the frig and look inside thing" I know I am asking for a trigger. When there is nothing inside that's too awful I certainly won't get in the car and go somewhere.
I try not to judge myself on good days or bad days because if I do one bad thing I am setting myself up for "well I've blown it today so I might as well go ahead". I figured out a few years ago that the one simple thing that works for me is weighing in the morning and making sure I stay where I'm at. If I'm over I adjust the day until I am back in my safe range. It is far easier for me because I really don't have to think much about what I eat and don't eat. If I'm under goal I can eat a few things but I still stay away from sugar. Again those that ask if I'm deprived...I would feel way more deprived if I lost my goal weight than having a few minutes of sugar joy. I don't even miss it. If you look at it like a drug you may be able to see how I put it in perspective. If I do drugs I'll feel great for a little while but then I have to deal with buying and doing more...and addiction...then I lose my life and everything in it. It makes it an easy decision right? I also know that by eating certain foods that it keeps my craving for them alive. If I don't eat them I eventually forget that craving. I have heard this from some other long time post-ops as well. (the craving part) Let me say as I always do...this is what works for me. If others are better at calorie counting and journaling that's awesome but you have to find what works for you. I'm rushing like a fiend...I hope this made some sense!
hugs, Y

That absolutely makes sense.
Like a drug - a little creates a sense of withdrawal and then when we stop, a craving builds, and that increases and grows. But, if you don't have it at all the craving isn't likely to be triggered.
No, I know exactly what you mean and I'm glad to hear you speak of it as I want that reminder.
This is why it helps to pass up the cookies/treats/sugary things rather than just "have a little".
hug appreciated,
A.
