but not really.

I got to start puree today.  I had some refried beans w/cheese early in the day.  Man was that tasty!  Well the family went to this seafood restaurant tonight for fish and chips.  I went along for the ride.  Well after I got there I figured I would try a piece of fish so I got some orange roughy (broiled) and I CHEWED THE HECK out of it.  I ate a very tiny portion of it.  Man did it taste good.  I went down ok and I am not feeling any ill will now.  I could see myself eating that a lot with some nice veggies later on dow the road.

I'll stick with my puree the rest of the week now!

Don't hate me but I was told at my appointment on Moday that I could start soft foods on day 10....that means this next sunday I can have flaky fish....and it was not until you mentioned orange roughy that I was excited about it....sounds good....

anyway if you chewed it to mush, you just pureed it with your teeth and its all good!!!!

Miss Suzy I'm glad you didn't get sick.  There are some real reasons though about why you need to stick to that puree.  Even when it's chewed really really good.  I was going to send a link to a post I got involved in not long ago but someone got nasty so I'm going to paste some parts of it instead OK?  Here are a few different lines that are worth reading.  I'm not jumping on you OK?  I just want you to know the thinking behind all this.

Your stomach is forming scar tissue over the staple lines. Each time you eat solids you are breaking those fine lines of scar tissue. Scarring never forms in the same place twice. You are risking a leak.

Your new stomach is like a newborn baby. You would never give a newborn chicken....I think that's what people are trying to say

The pouch is healing and needs very little stress put on it. You need to treat it very gently and in turn, it will heal well and you will have very few, if any, problems.

To drink the stomach remains relaxed and liquids move through with little reaction.
To digest  solid food you stomach performs a squeezing and pushing motion over and over called churning.  The best thing you can do for the stomach early out is give it a rest while it heals and let liquids gently flow through it.
You may be able to get away with chewing something to liquid but if when you start eating things that the stomach wants to start churning before your ready you will find things that you can't handle or even it you can handle it you might be overworking the stomach.

You are breaking the small threads of adhesions trying to grow, you are risking a leak, you are risking your health.

I surely don't want you to think I'm slapping your hand...it's more about educating ourselves and knowing our body.  I'm so glad you didn't get sick and I'm glad you sticking to puree the rest of the week!  Soooooo glad to see you on the other side.
hugs, Y

Ouch - Dang - I never really knew about all that particular stuff.  Thanks for pointing that out to me.  Isn't it funny, though, how the rules vary from one surgeon to the next.  Like Dawn - she can have soft foods after 10 days.    I just figured that since I was feeling so great and not having any issues - that I wouldn't hurt anything the fist.  THANK GOD I tried it with nice soft flaky fish eh??  Of course the digesting thing - doesn't matter how soft it is eh?

I threw the rest of it away today  (the fish) and had my beans.  Maybe tomorrow I'll make myself some tuna salad and throw it in the food processor.
