WLS Success-through Powerful Positive Attitudes

My surgery story

Wow.  I can't believe it's actually done and over with.  This was a long time coming.

My surgery went very well, no problems.  Had a small hiatal hernia that he fixed with a couple of stitches.  I never had any problems with it, so that was surprising to me.

Sad note - Monday morning as I was getting ready to leave for the hospital, I was feeling so confident and happy.  Not scared or nervous or anything.  Well, I went downstairs to get some laundry from the dryer and I found my cat dead on the floor .  It was AWFUL and shook me to the core.  He was 10 yrs old and overweight and had been coughing earlier in the evening.  Sigh.  Well, that certainly was not a good start to this whole thing and I was so upset - but I did my best to try to calm myself down before having to go into surgery.

I miss him so much - I have my other furbaby, MJ, a 10 yr old terrier mix to love on.  I am looking forward to feeling better and getting this show on the road.  Thank god for this website and good drugs!!  I am feeling very positive and so far have no buyer's remorse.  Oh and I didn't get a drainage tube (yay) - my incisions were glued - and I have a ON-Q Pain buster.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have a cat and am very attached to her. I can't imagine loosing her or you having to deal with the loss before surgery.

I am glad your WLS went so well.

I had an On-Q Pain Buster but mine didn't work. It was just as full on the first day as it was on day 4. I kept telling nurses and even my doc's PA. I pulled it out and through it away on day 4.

Thank you..

Wow, that's a shame about the pump.  I really didn't think it was doing anything til I pulled it out and then I knew it HAD been doing it's job.  Mine wasn't full anymore on day 4.

Thanks!!

That ON-Q really did work!  I only know because after I took it out I felt some discomfort that I had not been feeling beforehand.  It was annoying to have to wear the pouch around my neck - and I kept it for 4 days ( I think by the next day it woulda been emptied)

I hope it will work for you !!!!!

I am glad to hear you are pain free and doing so well. I am so sorry you lost your furbaby right before surgery..I have three kitties and I love them so much..I can't imagine going through that trama right before a life changing surgery. Some people just don't understand that we can love our furry ones like family. Was nice that the doctor fixed the hernia for you. I don't know what an ON-Q is..I had liquid vicoden to drink and it tasted aweful..so Im glad your pain meds are working good for you. Welcome to the losers bench..we saved you a seat...now you can sit and enjoy the view..Hugs,Katie

ON-Q is a pump that is inserted through a small incision to control incision pain....it deliveres medicine through 2 tiny tubes ....It's pretty interesting.

OMG - that liquid stuff is N A S T Y.....But...ahhhhhh what a relief it brings, eh?  THANK GOD I have it.  I can't imagine going through this first week without it!!!  I am surprised it doesn't make me puke, though.  lol.

Yeah, my poor kitty.  I am having a  hard time yesterday and today - thinking about him and reliving in my head finding him that morning.  Not fun. Ugh.  Sigh.  Thanks for you kind words.

Oh sweetie....I am so sorry.  My fur babies ARE my children and my heart hurts for you so much.  Perhaps the surgery was a little bit of a distraction but we still have to work through our grief.

So glad you didn't get a tube! I had one for 3 weeks and you could have heard it a mile away when I screamed for joy when they took that thing out.  You did crack me up when you said you felt like you'd been hit by a truck and then remembered you had drugs.  The ON-Q is a miracle invention and I can't believe Diana's didn't work.  I had a major mishap when I had surgery because they forgot the PCA pump for 8 hours!  Long bad story that wouldn't happen these days.

Again, please know how sorry I am about your baby....there are no words to help.  I wrote a poem when I lost one of my babies.  I'll find it later....it will probably make people cry because it still makes me cry and I wrote it in 1980.

You might not have buyer's remorse.  I didn't!  I was so happy to have the surgery that nothing was getting me down.  So glad you're doing better.
hugs, Y
