WLS Success-through Powerful Positive Attitudes
I am SCARED!!!!!
I have officially changed surgeons. I feel good about the decision. All is running smoothly and we are on the short track to surgery. I do have to make a final decision about the sleeve or the RNY. I would prefer the sleeve but diabetes resolution does seem to be better with the RNY. So,....how to decide....yikes....
But the truly disturbing part for me, given my family history for heart attacks at an early age, we decided to go through a preop stress test. I am TERRIFIED. My mother had a heart attack during a stress test and she was a year older than I am now. I know that I have to go through this to get surgery and that surgery will make me less likely to have a heart attack but, I am so scared of the test.....

Oh sweetie....I have to believe things are so much different now. Especially with the docs knowing your history. Think positive thoughts so you don't stress your body more. Let me know exactly when it is so I can send you prayers and good thoughts. I know it's hard not to be scared when I ask you not to be scared right? Let me know when the test is.

A couple years back I had chest pressure and because of my father's heart history my doctor decided to order a stress test for me. Its doable and you let them know when you cant continue on the treadmill. I found a flat treadmill is alot different than one that is inclined.Ü But talk to the doctor before you start. Things are alot different today like Yvonne said. They can even do a chemical stress so you don't have to do the treadmill. I found out my heart is not damaged but it does work a little harder because of the extra weight. ( I then preceded to put on 32 more pounds until I reached my highest wt) They concluded stress was causing more of my symptoms. Hang in there and prayers are definitely going out for you.

I changed surgeons too - and it was THE BEST thing I ever did. I'm not sure what was behind the change - but I'm so happy with the surgeon who did my surgery. It took me over 21 months from my first consultation to the actual surgery - but I'm 158 pounds lighter and confident I will get to my goal! Hang in there. Everything happens for a reason! Stop back and keep us posted with your progress.
Well Hello Neighbor - it's rare that someone knows where Apalachin is! I probably should put Binghamton down so more people realize where I'm from!
I see from your profile that you and your hubby are post RNY? Congrats! It must be interesting to have someone right by your side going through this. Of course the gentlemen seem to drop the weight faster sometimes!
How was Horseheads for surgery? I tried the local practice in JC - wasn't happy - so I ended up in Ithaca and I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Mecenas. He's a wonderful surgeon. The hour drive to and from support group is difficult and I think I would go more often if it wasn't so far - but I have this support family at my finger tips any hour of the day - and I do pop in here at least daily, if not more than once per day.
Thanks for saying hello - it's nice to know I have people close by!

Hey Diane,
I have heard nothing but good things about your surgeon.
We really like Arnot and my hubby and I actually had different surgeons. His surgery was done open and mine was done lap. And of course we haven't really experienced the same things(go figure) but it does help we know what the other went through.
I tend to be the food police.....I have to stop that, a grown man does not want to be told what to eat.I I don't want him to feel like a child being scolded. I just get concern and my alter ego or split personality (whatever you call it)....the food police comes out You know how silly us newbies get. But all in all we are doing good.
We love our support group. Its at the Vestal Library every third Wednesday 6:30-8:00pm. We are an Arnot Group but we have other surgeons patients there as well. ( Dr T's and maybe there is one Dr Mecena patient )
There is another group that meets and they are not associated with any surgeon. (There are a few different surgeons represented there)Terry has been certified by OH as a support group leader. They meet every 2nd Wednesday also at the Vestal Library but from 5:30-6:30pm. You should check one or both of them out sometime. Especially when winter rolls around and you do not want to travel to Ithaca in the bad weather. Of course Yvonne is always great..You cant go wrong checking in here.
