I know the introductions get lost sometimes so I wanted to post a new thread to call attention to a new member posting.  If you respond to this post I'll make sure she knows.  This is her introduction.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Diana - and I am 43.  I have started the process towards wls but I am suddenly getting very scared and nervous about the surgery choice- maybe I have been reading too many negative stories - so I am here for the positives .!  :)   I  have been heavy since I was 6 - and have fought the ups and downs my whole life.  I watched my Mom suffer terribly from cancer and lost her in 2005.  Totally devasted and depressed I ate and slept my way through the next two years.  In 2007 at  295 - I started a liquid fast and lost 85 pds.    However - even with exercising I only kept it off for about a year or so...  And now I am again back to 285.  Very depressing!

This past September I had a  weird health scare -sudden motor and sensory nerve damage to my legs - causing me to fall several times (breaking my whole right foot) before staying down.  The doctors have no explanation for this paralysis in my right leg.   The thought is maybe I pinched a nerve or something.  But it has gone away which I am very grateful for.  But my thoughts keep drifting to whether my weight is the real cause behind my leg issues - so I  want to do my body a favor and get rid of this weight  - yes  again..

I am married with two young daughters and would like to be a healthy example for them.  I work full time in Boston in Finance and love my job - and try to get to the gym at lunch as often as possible.  I really enjoy weight lifting, yoga, zumba - everything about working out.  However I have noticed it is so much easier and fun when you weigh less!

Sorry Y   - but I have no furry pets!  I have allergies since I was a baby.  But I do have lizards!  lol   I have a 20 year old tiger salamander named spot, a 2 year old beardie named pumpkin, 3 year old leopard gecko named Nico, and a wacko crested gecko named Crash (and yes because he crashes into the glass cage!!  lol).

Anyway - I am here for the positives - :)

Thanks!

Dear Diana,
We have a lot in common!  I also started very young with the diets and I also lost my mom to a long battle with cancer and was also totally devastated and went deeper into my isolation and shame.  I am very impressed! You lost 85 pounds??? And you kept it off a year????  Do you know how hard that is?  I never was able to lose that much at a time.  That tells me that you are an excellent candidate for this journey.  If you can lose 85 pounds on your own that's phenomenal!  I also love yoga!  It's OK that you don't have furry children.  I love that you have lizards.  I had tons of those when I was a kid.  I loved all little animals of all kinds.  I'm so glad you're here!

For those that got here the same way, Diana wrote me through email and I invited her to come and join our family. YEA!! She showed up and introduced herself.
hugs, Y

Thanks for making me feel so welcomed Yvonne!  It means alot to me!  hug   I am so happy to find people who are living healthy and happy after wls.  -   Yes I have had alot of success in losing the weight.  Its just the keeping it off which is so difficult!  the longest I have kept it off was probably for a 7-8 year time during my 20's.  I did optifast at age 23 - starting at 230 ish and dropped down to 150.  I got married at 29 and I remember weighing 160 -so not bad but I had to work out 3 hours a day to keep that!

I am sorry about your mom...      After seeing what my mother went through - I ask myself daily - why can't i lose weight?  It should be so easy compared to the challenges she faced!!    Anyway I know I will never fully recover from losing her......I miss her on a daily basis...

But moving on with life .  I am making one of the most difficult decisions and appreciate everyone's help !  thanks all

Sweetie, I will continue to talk about toxic shame and how it just kills us.  The reason you can't do it is because our body goes into starvation mode and fights like hell to return us to the size we were.  A doctor did a study with prisoners and tried to feed them a lot of food to see if they could make them obese.  They fed them as much as they could eat and some gained and some didn't gain at all.  We have different metabolisms and we probably all started out with crappy ones already but we damage them even more when we starve ouselves.  We have a disease and that doesn't mean that we just give up and say I can't help myself but we can learn how to deal with it and getting rid of shame is a great start.  Get ready, you'll hear me say this over and over.
Stop shame/blame/guilt and judgment.  Concentrate on the things we are grateful for because our attitude is totally up to us!  The great thing is that you are no stranger to working out so you should be an awesome candidate!!

So glad you're here!  I'm looking forward to much more!
hugs, Y

Welcome welcome Diana!

This is the positive place to be..

that means... yes you can express your concerns... the difference is you won't get blasted over a comment! WE really try to put the positive side forward... believe me there is no shortage of positive things to say about WLS!

I had some fears also going into this... but now almost 8 months out from surgery I can say I wish I had done it sooner... I was 52 when i had my surgery.. so my dear you are ahead of the game!

do your research.. ask lots of questions and move forward!

Congratulations!

And may I say that one of the reasons this such a nice place to be IS because of JEllen.  I call her

She started as a pre-op and she's been here the whole time.  She's always a breath of fresh air and she so "gets it".  She soaks up the information and then expounds on her vision and experience.  I just want to say a special thank you to her for sticking around and holding everyone up!
hugs, Y

Hi Diana!

I have had fears here and there.  And I have been doing my fair share of worrying if I am choosing the right surgery.   But I always seem to be drawn back to my choice and now I feel confident and everything seems to be falling into place.  You will be fine :):)

Hello Diana, so very nice to meet you and have you in the group. I know what you mean when you say you are scared about surgery. If you were not worried about such a life change we would worry about you more. Fear is a common thing with WLS..however it doesn't have to be. With a great surgeon and lots of research and information you will do wonderful. 85 pounds lost on your own is amazing..you should be proud of yourself over that.

How long have you been married? and how old are your daughters? I have been married for 10 years and my husband and I both had WLS last year! Mine on October 19th and DH on November 9th..we wish we had done it years sooner. Hubby is down 100 pounds from his hightest weight and I am down 93 from my highest..you will feel so good when you take the step to do this for yourself and your health. We have two young girlies also..8 and 6..we did this for them too because we want to be there to watch them grow up. They are very supportive of us..you will be surprized how much your kids can and will be helpful to you in this process if you let them in to do so.

Im glad you enjoy working out..your a huge step ahead of the game. that is something I struggle with is getting more active..so you go girl!

Like JEllen said we are all about the postive here and will do our best to lift you up and address any questions or concerns you have. Everyone here has been wonderful to me and it is an honor for me to be on the same board with such sweet people. I hope you like it here too :)

I have kitties..three of them..sorry your allergic..Im allergic to lizards!!

Don't be a stranger to the board..we will get a seat on the "loser" bench ready for you..after your surgery you can join us :)

Smiles..Katie
