WLS Success-through Powerful Positive Attitudes

Hello everyone!

Thanks for the links to the blogs.  i read them both.  And the video was very good.  You are doing a great thing here.  I really wish more people believed the way that you do.  i am telling you.  i got caught up in the surgery war early out, and it made me feel terrible.  I didn't understand it.  I made a comment to the head cheese, on my end it was very innocent, I thought she was a spammer, because I had never seen her participate in any other threads and I immediately got ripped into, even trying to say I was wrong.  And then it was like 20 of them came out of the woodwork, with the sole purpose to bash me.  I ended up leaving the boards for a few days because I could not stand it.  I asked for one of them to step up and just say she is being wrong, but none of them would.  It was just attack, and keep on attacking the new guy until he leaves.  She even had the nerve to say that she loves the surgery wars because it "get****s".  I could not believe someone would stoop to such a level of hurting other people to get her point across.  This person is just mean and hurtful and I do not understand why people follow her blindly and do not have the courage to stick up to her.

Oh well, enough about that person.  I don't want to bring her negativity here to such a good place.  I am just glad I found you guys.  You all are some great people with great attitudes and I think that is just awesome!

Okay, it's about bed time.  Good night for now :)

Not sure which email program you use.  See if you can right click on the attachment and choose "save as" and then save it to a place that you can find it.  WOOO HOOOOOOOOO.  If that doesn't work, you can email them to me and I'll do it for you.
hugs, Y

Hello Brad..so very nice to meet you. I am fairly new to the site as well and very glad to be here among these wonderful people. It is so nice to see someone else young who has been married for 10 years..I feel like the only one. I also am very happy with my spouse..love him to pieces..he has been the best support for me. I had a lap RNY in October of last year and my husband had a lap RNY in November three weeks after mine. We are both doing great and supporting each other.

I know what you mean about wanting to be healthier and secretly wanting to look better too. Hubby has had the same trouble with clothing..he hated shopping at the big mans store and refuses to now even though he is still borderline on sizes to shop at "normal" stores. He is waiting to get new shirts until he can buy them at the mall or Walmart..he can buy jeans at walmart now for 10.00 a pair instead of 40.00 and up a pair at the big man store..I am so proud of him :) I went shopping with a girlfriend yesterday and found out that I am a size smaller in clothes then I thought I was..and I fit into my girlfriends jeans! she made me try hers on while we were trying on clothes..and she was so excited that I could fit into hers that she practically cried..its the best feeling. Im so glad that you will get to have moments like that too..but not the part about getting into a girlfriends jeans..lmao

I am getting ready to hand that "fattest freind" trophy to a different girlfriend of mine and she knows its comming her way fast..she is not too happy about it either. I sure hope I do not lose her as a friend. She is very proud of me though and compliments and supports me..so I am doing the same for her as she works hard to lose some weight as well. This is soooo not the easy way to go about losing weight..it has been very hard at times for my husband and I. Holidays were hard last year because we were just learning how to eat again.

We have two little girls who are 8 and 6..they are also an amazing amount of support for us. They remind us all the time that we cannot have sugar and to stay away from fatty stuff..it keeps us in check! They will not even let us in the chip isle in the store now..lol...not that we were wanting to be anyway, but they both gave up chips as well because mom and dad are not supposed to have junk food. I wish I could convince them to give up sugar..but that is a battle for another day. Congrats on joining the group and I look forward to hearing more from you in the discussion board.

Smiles   Katie

Katie... You are doing so well! I am so proud of you!  How wonderful that both you & your hubby are taking active steps on becoming healthy!  In the long run it will benefit those beautiful little girls....

Eventually, you will be able to get them off most of the sugary stuff.. that just takes time. Gradually, gradually.

Congrats to your entire family!!!

Thank you JEllen, It has been a long but worthwhile trip down the road to better health. I went shopping again tonight to get some tops my mom wanted that were on sale..and wound up getting some more things for myself that were smaller then I thought I could wear! Its so much fun to shop now that I have to watch  myself that I don't buy too much. I did get some great sales though ..anywhoo..you are looking great btw..you need to get some pics with your head in them..lol..we want to see that pretty face of yours. Congrats on your weight loss...have you reached your goal yet? Keep up the awesome work. Thank you for knowing my girls are beautiful without seeing a picture of them

Hi Katie!
It is very good to meet you as well and hear your story.  That is awesome about you and your hubby!  It is great that you both could get the surgery and go through it together!  Now you each know what the other is going thru and you will be great support for each other.

I know what you mean about the friend thing as well.  Although I don't think its as big a deal with men, me and my good friend of 20 years got on the scale the other day and I am not too far off from catching him!  We joked about it, and I don't think he was too worried about it, but i thought it was funny you mentioned that.  And yes, I sooooo am ready to be able to shop at regular stores.  I mean, I do want to be healthy, but I really, really want to be able to shop at regular stores.  This will be so exciting for me.  I am also holding off buying new clothes.  I am off work till at least april and I don't have to go out much, so I am putting it off as long as I can.  I think by April i will have to go get new clothes.

That is also so cute about your daughters.  Kids are good at remembering things and they will keep you and your hubby on track!  My wife has a 10 year old sister (yes, a 20 year difference!) and she remembers everything and will call you out on stuff if you are slipping up :)

But it is very good to tlk to you, and it you or your hubby would like to be friends(if he is on here too), just send me a friend request.  I would be happy to accept!

Keep in touch!
Brad

Katie, you are just adorable and the story about your girls was great.  Another one of the very important parts of our success is training the family what we are supposed to eat.  I so apologize if I'm repeating myself but I have a talk where I have a slide that says "Tuesdays and Sundays" and the story is that this pre-op tells her family all the things she's not supposed to eat and she's all excited and then her family catches her eating some of that stuff and she says "Well I went to support group and they said it was OK on Tuesdays and Sundays" because we will lie our butts off as addicts.  If you educate your family from the very beginning it makes it easier for everybody.

You know what's way cool?  To read something I wrote and know that it means something to someone else....like the trophy thing.  You guys are definitely the best part of the board for me and it so makes up for anything unkind that's been said elsewhere.  It's truly like a dream come true for me.  All I wanted was a place where everyone could feel safe and learn stuff from each other.  All of you make that possible and I'm so very grateful.

And Katie, about your friend and the trophy....just remind her that you love her and that's all you can do.  I so wish you the best on that one.  It's just difficult to adjust to a change of any friendship dynamics and eventually it will work out however it does.  The best part?  You're not going into it blind.  Because you understand you will have a far better chance at doing it as smoothly as possible.  You're a cutie Katie!
hugs, Y
