Home from the hospital!!!

Came home on Valentine's day. I had complications and the surgery took 5 hours. He removed adhesion's from my tumor removal in 1999 and found 2 leaks. My stoma is now smaller than normal because of him fixing them. He said wait until I get to the food stage to see if I will have any problems then. He was able to do it laproscopically. Thank the Lord!!! Prayers are answered.
Right now I am in pain. One of my 12 lb fur-babies jumped right onto my stomach. OK major tears going on. I am now taking pain meds to calm things down....I was hoping to advoid that because I hate taking meds. I am really having a hard time getting up from a sitting or laying down position. Since I have only half of my stomach muscles I have no core strength plus surgery doesn't help. The hospital beds let me raise and lower what part I needed and I could use my arm strength with the side rails to pull me. My bed does not have this. I am literally stuck in bed until my hubby gets me out. I even have to use a stool to get me in bed.   I don't know what I would do without him here by my side.  I am finding out that I am definitely colder than before and I cant really feel any bladder sensations since surgery. I just go to the bathroom periodically because I think I should, not because it felt full. I hope that changes soon. I get my drain removed on Thursday.... I cant wait for that. I know this part is rough but I will get through it. I talk to my parents alot and today I cried "purple puddles" as flylady would say. My brother called me and said he was proud of me and knew I was doing the right thing. That meant alot to me. Anyway thank you everyone for your prayers.

Welcome to the losers bench.

Aren't some husbands wonderful ! !   I know I couldn't have done my Reconstructive surgery without mine, he has been awesome these last two weeks!

Hey girl! I'm sooooooooooooooo happy for you!!!!!!!!!!  OK FIRST and VERY important.  I learned the hard way about fur babies too.  Keep a pillow on your stomach. It will give you some comfort and protect you from the jump.

Here's another tip.  Instead of trying to sit up, roll out.  You can even get a little cane but roll to the side of the bed and then push up with your arm or the cane.  You can even hook the cane under the edge of the bed (at the end toward your toes) and pull up with the cane.

I was colder too but mine went away pretty fast because I'm naturally hot natured!  Also don't assume the drain will be bad because I've had a few and they've all been different so just don't expect it to be bad OK sweetie?

Get lots of rest and I'm so glad to hear about you getting through it and on the mend!

hugs, Y

Thanks everyone!!!

I will definitely try those tips about moving and I will keep a pillow in my lap from now on. He is just so used to our cuddle time and I can see he is confused on why I wont allow him up higher than my lap. Right now I am awkwardly typing because he is laying half on the computer desk and half on my arm.  You gotta love them!!!

Tomorrow is the hour trip to the doctors so I'm excited to get this drain removed.
Still struggling with the fluids due to the nausea. but at least I get some in. I know that will have to get better with time. Sorry to be gross but I finally had a BM yesterday. I feel like my granddaughter because she is in the potty training stage and when she goes on the toilet we get the call so we can clap and congratulate her. so for me.LOL

take care everyone

It's funny the only thing I missed about the hospital was the bed ...well and the morphine pump even though they forgot to get it for me and I was without any pain meds for 8 hours.   Long horrible story that I can't remember if I told.  I hope the rolling out or the cane grab worked for you.  I got pretty ingenious when I needed help getting up.
