Sometimes it's tough to stay positive

About three weeks ago on my birthday I spent the day in the emergency room with kidney stones, two days later I was back in the emergency room in horrible pain. The next week i had surgery to remove one of the kidney stones that was too large to pass. This past week I was feeling droopy and didn't think nothing about it until I passed out. I ended up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer, I had lost a couple of units of blood. I was able to come home Saturday morning feeling so down in the dumps and wondering where I went wrong. Since my WLS surgery I have followed all the rules, I was feeling really sorry for myself.

Most of the day Saturday my dogs stayed right with me, may me feel a little bit better. My granddaughter came to see me and brought me some pictures she made for me and I felt a little a little bit better. I got up this morning and weighted and I have lost 107 pounds, so I took my measurements and I have shrunk some more since the last time I took my measurements. That made me feel a little bit better. This afternoon my daughter stopped by and when she looked at me she said, "Daddy your skinny!" (I'm really not, I still have about 50 pounds to lose).

My positive attitude is back!

Now I am a little embarrassed I ever felt sorry for myself.

Sometimes it is easy for the attitude to change to the bad side, especially when things don't seem to be going your way.

Your daughter is a blessing in disguise, I am sure she is so proud of you and you should be also, just think of all the accomplishments you have had.

Way to GO ! !

Thanks, my daughter is a blessing, in fact all three of my kids have been pillars of support for me during this journey.

Momentary lack of sunshine--- (positivity)

You got past it! no worries.

WE ALL have "normal" ups & downs... and it requires WORK to stay focused on being positive.

So many of us have learned over the years to view everything in a negative light that WE MUST RETRAIN ourselves into being positive.

and I don't mean:

I'm positive I feel like TRASH!

any how....

you found a few positive things to focus on and your on your way!

THAT being said... yesterday... I was disappointed that my weight went UP a slight bit. But- disappointed is a whole lot different than being miserable, crushed, and dejected.

Remember this a journey!

Have a good one!

I'm right there with you aaddison57.....

I had a great week last week but 2 days I went over my 1500 calories I allot per day. I dealt with it and moved on because the next day was a new day but then yesterday was the Superbowl. I didn't pig out but I did have  beer and some carrot cake.

I weighed myself this morning and was up 1.5 lbs. I didn't workout this am b/c I was up until 11 am moving in new furniture last night. I haven't eaten very good today either. I'm just tired. I'd much rather be in bed but I have to turn this way of thinking around and I hope after getting a good night sleep tonight, I will have the energy to get up tomorrow morning at 5:15 am and workout.

Keep moving forward!!!

Sharon they did a study with maids in hotels and pointed out to part of the study group just how much physical work they actually did every day.  When they realized their job equaled so many hours in the gym they started losing weight and getting healthier.  You stayed up moving furniture and it's important to tell your brain that you did work out just not at the gym.  Our subsconscious is very powerful.  Remember to start each day as innocent as a new born baby.  The past is gone and cannot be changed so we get a do over every morning.  If you bring baggage from yesterday forward to today you only hurt yourself and bring yourself down OK?  When you get down, read that post about "I can do hard things".

Hi!

What a great post!

It is DARN hard sometimes to allow yourself to see some light after a tough time-but you did! There is an art to that and I am glad you shared it with us.

The hard part sometimes is to REALLY understand and believe that it IS a choice how we ultimately feel. You could have certainly gone on feeling horrible and many folks would have had a kind word or two for you. Instead-you chose to do the work and focus on the goodness. That caused MORE goodness to come your way. AMAZING how that works!!

Thanks again for the GREAT reminder!

Peace,
T

Thank You! A year ago if someone asked me if I was going to lose my excess weight. I would have  said "no it isn't possible". I thought it was impossible. I have learned a lot the past year and now I know I can do anything I want to now. One of the things that helped me realize that I didn't have to be trapped in a fat body the rest of my life was seeing how so many people on OH have been able to take control of their life.

I saw your before and after pictures in your signature and you have done great, thanks for the inspiration. I've got to believe if you can do it, I can too.

First off.. Congrats on your weight loss.. WOOHOO  that is awesome...

I pulled your post up yesterday and was going to respond but literally had so much to tell you that my hands couldn't work fast enough. Coming from a fellow weight loss patient who has visited the ER and had more surgeries than I care to count, I completely empathize with you.  It's hard to understand why things happen to us when we follow the rules and we do wonder "why did this happen to me? What did I do?" Know it gets better and sometimes things happen that are out of our control.. :)

Then this morning I was getting ready to do a post for my work blog and came across this out of Small Bites, Daily Inspirations by Katie Jay, thought I would share!

Move forward with optimism:
Practice an optimistic outlook – a hopeful and eager view to multiply your chances of success. Optimism puts into play a powerful source on your behalf. Even with life is hard, know that nothing lasts forever. As you have heard before, “This too shall pass."   It’s easy to get discouraged when you have had a lot of practice being discouraged. But now it’s time to practice optimism.     Action for the day: Pay attention to your thoughts today. When you have a negative thought, immediately replace it with an optimistic thought. Optimism can be learned!

Keep smiling and have a great day...

My animals always have a 6th sense and stay close when I feel bad.  That gets a little tricky though when I had plastic surgery and I had 5 cats all wanting to lay on me to make me feel better.  There weren't many unhurt places to lay down so I put pillows on top of me just in case.

I love it!! "Daddy you're skinny!"
