Good Morning!
I am new to this group so.. here is a little about me.
I am a 30 something swf and have been overweight all my life.

I started looking into wls when one of my friends had it done and the results were amazing.

Originally, I thought..no surgery isn't for me, but once you've tried "everything" and still have not lost the pounds, it puts a better light on surgery. Especially since they can do it lapro.

My 6 month supervised weight loss will be done next month and I am anticipating surgery in March.  I can not wait!

All my life, I have felt like a skinny girl in a "big girl body", and sometimes have felt like I was suffocating in my own skin.. BUT that is all about to change.  With this amazing tool that God has lead me to, I will be able for the first time in my entire life look like I want to feel.

I have found much support here in OH and can't wait to make more friends.

Sincerely,
Ledaizey

Welcome!  So happy to have you join this happy little group!

Congratulations on your desicion to have WLS.

I certainly know what you mean about thinking..."Weight Loss Surgery is NOT for me!" Unlike our fearless leader who saw one program about WLS and Marched off pronto to the Surgeon!

My journey has taken me from thinking... HOW could they do that to themselves? Just Diet and excersice will do the trick!!!

to WOW... what great success she is having....

many years later... I've tried everything else and nothings worked so I've gotta try something...

Had my RNY 7-23-09 and have lost 100lbs since I started at Doc's office in April. SUCCESS... I feel great and you will too!

do your research to know what complications are possible...
focus mentally on the life changing habits you need to make...
and get busy working your tool!

Again-- Congrats to you. It takes a certain bravery to take these steps!

Welcome Ledaizey!

It's great how some parts of our journey match up to others and some parts don't.  Like Judy said (JEllen) she didn't want to do the surgery in the beginning but I couldn't have it soon enough.  I really really relate to you feeling like the skinny girl desperately trying to get out of the big girl body.  I try to tell people that all the time ...they have no idea what's hiding in some people's bodies under the obesity.  They just assume things about them.  I am the world's most passionate obesity advocate.  I end up finding a way to tell almost everyone I meet about my surgery for several reasons.  If the fact that it worked for me helps someone else, I'm so glad.  It also keeps people from making the mistake of making any unkind remarks about obese people.  I can also super relate to suffocating in your own skin.  The first year after I lost the weight I felt like I was walking on the moon in a sort of weightlessness.

I am so happy for you and can't wait for you to be on the other side!!
hugs, Y

p.s. Had to fix a typo...that's what I get for trying to type when I'm sick as a dog!

Hello Ledaizey! Welcome to the group..we are so glad to have you :)

It took me two years to finally decide to have the surgery..being close to 400 pounds on my 30th birthday was almost more then I could bare.

So here I am before my 31st birthday, I had my surgery on 10-19-09!

I am feeling so great and happy that I made the decision..just wishing I had made it much sooner then I did.

My husband had it too three weeks after I did..he is doing well also.

I know how you feel about suffocating in your own skin..I used to feel that way too..and now I feel like the caterpillar that is turning into the beautiful butterfly..and I am growing my wings as we speak.

I can't wait for you to have your surgery and start to feel like the woman you want to be.

I hope we can be the support you need during your transition into your new lifestyle.

Looking forward to getting to know you better..Katie

Hi everyone!  I'm new too!

I am totally amazed at how similar a lot of you are to me.  I had been struggling with post op stuff basically by myself until a friend at my 2nd job who had had surgery in 2008  told me about this site.  I wonder why my surgeon's office didn't?  I think they were assuming that everyone can go to their support group but I can't! Anyway I am so excited to see other people going through the same things.

About me...I'm a nurse...I work at a hospital in Mobile, AL with post op vascular and urology patients (yes I've seen way too many naked men in my day).  I do that on weekends and during the week I work at a local nursing home when they need help. I had sworn I would NEVER have WLS because we always got the patients who came back with all the complications.  But I got to thinking that most of them were doing stuff they weren't supposed to (stuffing french fries or fried chicken down their throats at 1 week out for example).  A lot of my friends at the hospital were not supportive at all with my decision but now that they've seen how this has worked for me they've turned around.  I think about half of the staff at the nursing home though have had some sort of WLS! (Maybe because their insurance covers it?)
As far as home life goes...I'm married to another nurse (you don't want to be involved with our dinner conversations) and we are raising 4 boys (7, 15, 17, 18). (mixture of his hers and ours).   We have 2 dogs...one we rescued from the nursing home....he's a dachshound and he was a whopping 32 pounds( his belly drug the floor) when we brought him home!!! We fed him only dogfood and he played with the boys in the yard every day and ran and ran and ran and now he weighs 19 lbs!!!!  The other one is a miniature schnauzer who we got from a hospice patient who died with cancer and had no where for her dog to go.

I turn 40 in November of this year and I'm going to be healthier than I ever was in my 30's or most of my 20's!!!!!!

It's so nice to meet you and I"m really excited about being around POSITIVE people!

Oh Angie, you are tooooooo funny, (seeing way too many naked men).  And how smart were you to figure out that you were seeing patients that were non-compliant!  It is true that many times friends and family are not supportive and it can be for a variety of reasons. Sometimes you don't even find out until later that some friends and family aren't supportive because when you lose that weight you change the dynamics of the group like giving away the "fattest friend trophy".

And wow, raising 4 boys AND rescue dogs!  You're a winner in my eyes!!  Poor baby dog that drug his belly on the floor.  And a special thanks to you for giving that poor baby a home that lost it's home due to a hospice patient.  I know I show it off too much but here's the you tube video about my rescue dog.

How awesome that you're doing this so early.  I missed my 20's, 30's and most of my 40's.  I'm making up for it as much as I can!

We are so glad to have you here!
hugs, Y

Hi Ledaizey and Angie!!

I am new, too.  I am so happy to have this extra support as I embark on this journey.  My surgeon's office will submit me for approval the beginning of March - then I sit and wait I guess....
