Hey Suzy!

Welcome and happy birthday!  This is a great group indeed.  I have been missing in action for a month becuase of the holidays.  I'm 46 also, also married and we have three children ages 4, 6 and 9...and two cats and a dog.  I had my RNY almost six months ago.  and Yvonne has been instrumental throughout my preparation for surgery and recovery.

I have been so pleased with my decision to have surgery.  Everything went perfectly.  I did have a stricture form about one month post-op but a quick outpatient endoscopy fixed the stricture and i was drinking normally while still in recovery.  I weighed 300 pounds, and had co-morbidities and required about 12 prescription meds a day.  Today I am 199 pounds, no longer obese and I do not take any prescription meds.  My energy levels are great.  I worked in our yard for a full day today and felt great.

Our six year old did not want me to have surgery because he didn't want his daddy to look different.  They have a way of only perceiving things in the present.  He imagined I would come home from the hospital weighing a normal weight.  Our nine year old was fine with it and obviously we didn't spend too much time discussing it with our four year old.  Now, all of our children are so happy I am thinner.  They tell me all of the time.  Our four year old told me recently that I used to be her big squishy daddy and now I am her big crunchy daddy.

In fact, just yesterday I received a delivery of car parts from FedEx.  Each of the four brake rotor boxes weighed 25 pounds.  I conducted a show and tell with our children illustrating how much excess weight I carried with me everywhere I went.  ...and i still have to lose one more rotor!!!

It is normal to get apprehensive once your have a surgery date.  After all, this is major surgery.  Focus on the gift your are giving yourself and your family.  It is a selfless gift you are giving them.
Hugs,

Chris
