OK, what's your stinkin' thinkin' telling you??

Hi Yvonne
That stinkin thinkin creeps up at the worst times!  For example, I was at my bariatric surgeons office reunion that takes place every October.  I was in the fashion show.  The person who is in charge of the fashion show put together slides for each person in the fashion show and gave a speech that included before weight and current weight.  Also, the person gave a total for pounds lost.  Well, the person got it totally wrong.  I came out on stage and there I was on a projector screen BIGGER than life and as I walked out on to the runway, I hear "and Terry has lost 195 lbs".  I was so self conscious that I walked out shaking my head no and also mouthing the word "no" several times.  I knew in my heart, soul and mind that I had only lost 130 lbs and I felt like everyone thought I was lying.  I was mortified and could not enjoy the fashion show.  This was my own stinkin thinkin (as well as some of the audience too)!  Later, my husband said, "love, do not worry about it because the picture they used looked like you lost 195 lbs".  Yep, that did it.  I just wanted to like disappear.

Thank you for all of your posts and links.

Hugs,
Terry

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they

ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Oh Terry,
I so get that...and unfortunately the reason you worried that someone thought you were lying was because we get exposed to WLSers talking about each other and yes we are human like all others but it's still something that's hard to forget.  And awwwwwwwwwww about what your husband said.  How sweet.  And Terry I feel particularly honored to have you here as a support group leader.   Thanks for your insight and it is much appreciated.
hugs, Y

Hi Yvonne.  You know It's amazing how we can start sabotaging ourselves before we even realize what we are doing.  You said it - it's the perfect example of an obese person in a thin person's body.  Obviously you still need to work on some of those issues in your head.  Darling,  no matter how old I get, I will still have issues that I have to work on and no matter how many times I turn the darned things over to my Higher Power, somehow this silly old brain of mine grabs them back again and tries to take the wheel again.  Where does that inevitably lead me - back off track again, of course!!!  I have to keep reminding myself over and over again that if I don't stay grounded and work a program regularly I'm still that sick human being that is all tied up with addictions galore
and dumber than a post!  But when I stay in touch with other people and work my program, I can learn to recognize my limitations, I can use the God given talents and the strength He gives me to choose a better life each day

Does any of this sound familiar???

Hey Citykitty,
I've been trying to get back to your post most of the afternoon.  You are so right...I turn it over too but my brain has a mind of it's stinkin' thinkin' own!  I love your that about addictions galore and dumber than a post.  And yes, when I really understand that I do have to work my God given talents and leave the rest alone...I don't need to be driving that bus ya know but old habits die hard but they DO DIE!  I've only had 8 years to work on it but I'm light years ahead of where I was just a few years ago.  And yes it sounds so very familiar.  Thanks so much for being here with us.  You guys gave me something I really REALLY needed today.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart my little WLS Success Family.
love and kisses, Y

I do know what you're talking about.  When they weighed me at the gym for that filming I was shocked at how much it changes from early morning to mid day.  I only weigh in the morning as nekid as I can get (which is nekid) and that's it for the day.  I remember feeling just how you feel.  I had a stall when I was 2 months out that lasted for 6 WEEKS!!! Next thing I know it's dropping off 5 pounds at a time.  I promise you I have typed this same thing to newbies hundreds of times and I will even say "You will hit a plateau and you'll think you've quit losing but I promise it will start coming off again" and every single time they email me and say "I'm at a plateau!".  And I tell them remember what I told you???  Remember that I told you that you'd forget?

But that's OK, bless their hearts, they were just like me and you're in a panic!  One of my best friends says a monkey can do the first year.  It's so important to do your lifestyle changes in the beginning because that gives you a year or so to already have things in place.  It is much harder to make the changes at the end of the honeymoon period and it's harder to lose the regain if you don't keep it under control from the beginning BUT it is not impossible to get regain off.  Just try really hard to do all of it up front and it's just easier.  I have several great friends that got their regain under control and I need to get them to write things for me to pass along.

So girl, don't worry about that file at your surgeon's office.  Pretty soon it's going to be more and more and more!!!  I still haven't had a chance to go to the surgery page for Chris.  Can you give us a report???  Thanks so much for being here and thanks so much for being an angel to Chris.
hugs!! Y

Spoke with Rachel...Chris's wife when he came out of surgery and into recovery. Everything went great......she said he was really excited about getting this done. His wife was a very nice person to talk to and I can't wait to meet her at our Oct. retreat that the surgeon is having........I didn't call today because I don't want to bother them..........told her to get him up walking as soon as possible..........I am so happy for them both.

Thanks so much, I just wanted to hear he was OK.  Yep, let them rest because they both need it.  I just wanted to make sure he was OK.

You know my stinkin' thinkin'.  I really think I can please everyone and get upset when I don't.  It's something I fight with constantly.

Another is the way I don't think about other people enough.  I always think I did ..., why can't you.  I can do it right, why can't you.  I need to step up and realize we all are different and that is what makes this world wonderful.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

You know we've talked about this George.  You are still quite new and learning so much.  That's why I sent you the blog post of mine about "what other people think of us is not our business" and you also can't control the actions of others.  If we spend all that energy using it to make sure we do what's right instead of resenting those that "aren't doing it right" well...we'd just be way better off .  Live by example and show others the benefits of doing things well...that's certainly the best way infuence others.
much love, Y
