Topic: Are there any support group out there?
Hi all
Does anyone know of any in person support groups
I used to attend them when we were in Oklahoma before hubby retired from the Army.
I live north of Houston and see Dr. Now, so driving isn't an issue.
Thanks
Kim
Topic: Is Anybody Out There?
Hi everyone,
I did a search under groups for Baytown, TX and this came up. It doesn't look like there has been any recent activity although I do see that some new people, such as myself, have joined. I would like to offer any support I can to people on the WLS Journey and specifically people in the Houston/Baytown area!
My name is Kellye and I live in Highlands. I had VBG in 9/97 but my body managed to lose the ring (how did I lose it and where did it go are two questions I get all the time and my answer is I have no clue!). Anyway, I was revised to a proximal RNY by Dr. Carlos Ferrari on 5/22/2000 so I am ALMOST 10 years post-op.
I have hit some major bumps along the way with a nasty, nasty detour into cross addictions which took me down a 3.5 year spiral into Hell and then into recovery. I have been sober since 8/8/04 and am eternally grateful. My weight has crept back up, or at least some of it, and I am determined to beat it back into submission. Still, after 13 years of WLS history I still weigh 90lbs less than my highest weight so I am grateful. My tool still works, but my brain tries to overrule it so I deal with grazing as my biggest downfall. Currently I am 5'8" and sit at 228. I would love to get under 200 again. I know my body would be eternally thankful.
I have also struggled healthwise and my neurologist's office at San Jac Hospital is like my second home. Still, I am so much better than I was in 1997 that if I was told today that I had to have WLS surgery AGAIN to maintain the life I had now or go back to 1997 I would crawl up on that table in a heartbeat!
I really hope people will come out and respond. I would love to catch the enthusiasm of the newly post-op and those in the "honeymoon" phase as well as learn from more seasoned post-ops. I am not referring to double digits as seasoned. I am referring to those who have gotten their weight off and kept it off. Also, those that are struggling I hope will come out and share too. Regardless of our cir****tances or stories we can all learn from one another.
So, I ask the question again. Is anybody out there? I surely do hope so.
Take care,
Kellye

Topic: RE: Losing Weight
I would like to encourage the both of you to not give up on your goals. I can remember back when I had my Lap Band Surgery 1/31/2008, I felt like I couldn't see any results as quickly as I thought I should. It doesn't happen as fast as the Gastric Bypass Surgery so don't look for it to. The Dr. was right though, you shouldn't intake so much sugary calories. I had alot of sugar free drinks. I too have a 10 cc band and it is now 4 cc in my band after almost 2 years post op. I have lost a total of 138 lbs. I do believe that another thing that is true is that it is all in your head. Be encouraged and if you have any questions you guys can email me at [email protected].
Good luck ladies.

Topic: RE: Losing Weight
I had my lapband surgery in Sept. 2009 and the weight loss has been very slow. I am not at all happy with myself. I recently received a treadmill as a birthday gift from my husband so I am hoping for some better results. I felt restriction when I first came out of surgery and they had to remove some of the fluid due to complications with breathing. I have had my 4th fill and it was like pulling a tooth the nurse practioner did not want to give me a fill like it was her decision. I was tolded that if i find myself hungry and able to eat more than 4 ounces of food that i should make my way back for a fill and soon as I get there she starts giving me grief that its all in my head and i need to train my mind. I never was opposed with food to the point of just eating anything not moving . I was just trying to follow protocol. Not sure what to eat most of the time so I find myself very hungry and just doing with out. please help

Topic: Losing Weight
I had my lapband Realize surgery on August 15, 2009 and have not lost NO weight. I had my surgery done out of the states so my support is thin. Anyways I just had my 3rd adjustment yesterday and now I actually fill restriction. My band holds 10cc's instead of 4cc's and my surgeon had told me that it takes several adjustments before it starts to restrict. I have been very, very patience and now I want some RESULTS... I've started doing a journal today. My fill doctor says that I'm eating way to many sugary drinks like tea, etc. but I've had no soda's. He says that is considered calorie-liquid intake. So I am focusing on sugar free or water drinks. I need a support group to be with me in the journey that I have decided to take. My goal is to start exercising & watch the weight come off.

Topic: RE: Update?
I was wondering the same thing as there seems to be no activity here. I am in the process of seeing about group leader training. I want something for us Houston folks that will stay active and we can plan outings and stuff like that, I will let you all know what I find out. The Dallas folks are great but I am wanting something more local.
Topic: RE: Update?
I was starting to wonder the same thing, the Dallas group keeps inviting me to stuff. I am planning on having surgery in a few months and would like the support. I am thinking about starting one in Katy but I don't know if there are enough people. Hope someone responds soon that knows something.

Topic: Update?
I've not received any information on when this group meets, no messages, etc. Are you all still meeting regularly?
Thanks!
