Snow! I reminded myself on the way to work this morning that this is perfectly normal for mid November. Last year was the 2nd warmest winter on record. Must brace myself for a typical winter.
Liz your club activities do look so fun! Paula I get what you're saying about wanting to live in a community that offers these things. My friend's parents rented in the same condo in Panama City for years, and there were lots of gatherings, and many of the same people each winter. They would leave Minnesota for 3 months. We still laugh about the time her Mom told her on their weekly phone call, We had something called Jello shots on the bus on the way to the casino. They really were living their best lives in their early retirement years.
Peps your stories about your Dad make me so happy. It gives me hope that life's last years can still be happy. My theory is the way you die is the way you lived, magnified, but I actually don't have that many test cases. Was your Dad an optimistic charming man his whole life? Kind of sounds like it.
I do have one case study that refutes my theory. One of my friend's mother was polite enough, but she was wound very tight and was not given to much joy. Kind of stern, reserved. Dementia brought her to a different place, and she became more loving and often, the life of the party. I wondered if that spirit was always a part of her and life had just squashed it (she did have tragedies, her son was drowning and her sister swam out to save him, and she lost them both), or if it's all just how the neurons fire, or don't fire. Anyhow, I was glad for my friend, because difficult or charming, she was going to have her Mom live with her. I'm glad they had some sweet years together in the end.
Diane, what an intriguing idea for the studio to actually buy the building. Probably benefits and pitfalls galore.
We're having dinner with DH's siblings, and the nieces and nephews who still live around here tomorrow night. I'm always happy to spend time with them.
Greetings all
Atmospheric river underway here. It started yesterday afternoon and the wind was fierce overnight. Tesla was frightened and did a lot of pacing and digging. Poppy is clueless. But it rained overnight and is still raining. There were quite a few power outages and some road closings due to flooding. But we had none of the above and are fine. Still another day or two of it. Plus there might be king tides.
So early wake up for me as we had a zoom board meeting for the studio. It was actually pretty good and I only had to excavate the group out of a few rabbit holes. Discussion of maybe buying out building outright occurred. Landlord is also a board member. The good news is that he would finance as I don't think a bank would loan money on the place without some pretty harsh conditions. But who knows. Just trying to get through the year end stuff. Gallery power was out part of yesterday but seems ok now.
So I went to the gym and did my walking and increased what I did even though it is pathetically small. A big deal for me.
Peps that is so adorable about your Dad. Nice that he is content and not fearful or angry. I know you enjoy these days with him.
Liz, the hoe- down looked like fun. Good eats. Is there a costume for Italian night? LOL GL with repairs.
We started the next season of the Diplomat. Pretty good. Took a bit for me to remember who all the characters are. We also watch Somebody Somewhere which is a sweet show.
House cleaner came this morning and DH went to the cardiologist. He takes a beta blocker and says it makes him tire out. Due to good test results the dr. is cutting back on the meds so DH is pleased. Me too.
More spinach tonight. Maybe steak.. Diane S
Neat little story about your Dad! And yes, age is all about perspective. Old age keeps increasing as my age increases!
Well, the atmospheric river and cyclonic bomb that was supposed to ravage us never materialized. I have not heard whether or not Diane S.'s area 4-5 hours north of me is being blasted. Some friends in Washington state got some good wind, but never saw the deluge that was promised either. We did get some good winds in the wee hours, but that seemed to be it. But it was nice to wake up to almost 60 degree temps this morning. The mornings yesterday and the day before had temps in the high 30s/low 40s.
Hair cut , a visit with Dad and trimming on Buster were my after work activities yesterday. Dad offered that he no longer knows his age and has trouble answering when someone asks him his age. He was pleased to be reminded that he is 95. He was guessing 93 yesterday. He has also decided that 110 should be his longevity goal. For years it has been 103. My brother and I are guessing he probably only has 2 to 3 at most given the rapid cognitive decline he is now experiencing. I told him about my aunt's death. He asked how old she was. I told him 87. His response? "That's so young! What happened?" I have to say that made me smile. His outlook on age is refreshing! I suppose when one is 95, 87 could seem young. LOL
Weight was up to 119 today. No particular reason other than muscle repair that I can think of and normal pre shot up tick. Seems to happen as I get close to shot day. No matter because my range is steadily heading down the scale. What is worth looking into is the fact that as the scale goes up I start to get a little bit of a "f*ck this" attitude and start wanting and seeking sweet and indulgence foods. I need to remind myself of my long term goals more on days like today.
The wine colored trousers arrived yesterday. The jacket was sent separately????? The fit on the pants is fantastic! My guess is that they will fit me at goal weight with a little altering.
Not much else I can think of... Wishing all a Winning Wednesday!
For our dogs (and it would be true for Justice too) they are so low to the ground that they pick up more dirt and moisture from the grass whenever they go outside. They are also lickers and Bella in particular is always licking her paws and fur. She has a lot of little growths that she likes to gnaw on!
Dogs do get doggie! I noticed recently that Justice got doggie smelling really quickly between baths down here. Dog sweat?

149.0, at least I'm staying in the 140's...even if barely!
Liz, you and DH look so darned cute dressed up for your Country dinner/dance! Did I ever mention that I used to be a line dancing queen? In the early 90's I took lessons once a week and went dancing at least 2 more nights every week. It was tons of fun and we would even go to the country music festivals! One of the things I was really looking forward to about moving to Florida was the planned activities such as this in the retirement communities! They just don't offer that kind of thing here! My parents had weekly happy hours, beach excursions, dinner dances, shows and even cruises planned with their community!
Grey weather again today! I'm longing for my Maui ocean breezes and hearing the waves crashing upon the lava rock shore! The condo we stay at is right on the ocean and we can whale watch from our lanai! How I wish I could live out Ben's and my dream of retiring there!
Christmas shopping is almost done! Do you ever buy your spouse a gift that you really want for yourself? I got Kevin a Ring doorbell because I think we could benefit from the added security with all the packages I have delivered on the weekly. I also got him a measuring tape that has a laser beam to measure the distance and it just pops the measurement up on a little screen. He is always doing little projects around the house so I think he will like it! Last year I got him one of those car diagnostic units that you plug into you car and it tells you whats going on with your car. He uses it quite a bit and the kids have benefited from the diagnostics as well!
House cleaning has started but must be continued today. Also must prep for leading Bible study tomorrow! Gave the dogs baths yesterday. I couldn't figure out the stink in the house and then decided it was them! DC1 doesn't have great personal hygiene habits and I thought it was lingering smells from them, but I sprayed down the area where they sit and the smell was still around (and on me). At least one dog camps out on my lap whenever I'm sitting on the couch so I picked the dog up and took a sniff and there it was!

Last night's dance was very fun with lots of good food. I had oysters, shrimp, lobster, turkey chili, and apple crisp. All in small quantities. Dressing up was fun but I couldn't take off the hat due to hat hair and my feet got very hot in the boots (see picture on TT). I wish I had leather pants to wear like Ann!
Today our fix-it guy gets the patch back on the ceiling. Hopefully ready to paint tomorrow or Friday? I didn't think about the fact that we would have company this week with the chandelier hanging between chairs in the kitchen and the dining table pushed to on side. At least it will be done before Thanksgiving. Speaking of which our friends arrive in late afternoon and we are going to Italian night at the clubhouse with them and some local friends.
Time to get a Justice walk in before water aerobics. Have a whimsical Wednesday!

I just read about a place near us that only sells take-out meals to heat up and gets good reviews - maybe they have beef stroganoff?

Do you still have more work to do at the house before you close?
