LOL to surviving a potato famine on less than 500 calories or 2 crackers!

So much for using the betting approach I have used the last few years which was based on the predictions from the pink sheet. I lost $25 by the 5th race yesterday so I stopped betting. I'm going to have to develop a new method for next year - maybe the naughty horse one!

Very little sleep last night - I was worrying about all the work that has to be done for DD's wedding, then clearing out my house in the subsequent 11 days to get it ready for sale.

We are visiting a former work friend of DH's this morning, then going to Lake George to stay with friends tonight. Likely dinner out again.

I finally found out how much the insurance company is going to pay for the rodent damage to my car: $1500 after the $300 deductible! The claim adjuster said they have a lot of those claims especially in the area in which I live. I guess the mice are artists at getting into cars and damaging the wiring etc. Though I have had a loaner car, I will be glad to have my own back on Monday. And now it won't smell wonky anymore (there apparently was a dead mouse in the air cabin filter - yuck)!

Have a thoughtful Thursday!

Parkinson's is a tough disease. Two of my uncles had it and we have a friend living with it.

I should have used the naughty horse betting approach!

Agreed. Hence surviving the ice age in two crackers. Or in the case of mt Swiss ancestors, one hot chocolate. Ds

Parkinson's is such a thief! So sorry to hear it is taking from your family also.

I always say, my body loves nothing more than to be fat! I would've made it through some lean winters in Finland with no problem. Or as my daughter says, identifying more with her Irish heritage, " What's that lass? There's a potato famine? You need to survive on less than 500 calories a day? Done!"

Hi, all,

Just checking in with nothing much to report. We're still working on mostly minor house repairs: dishwasher wasn't properly secured and was rocking, a loose board on our stairs, roof repairs, etc. We were able to get our French door repaired enough that we aren't going to replace it---so that's a saving of AT LEAST $6k! In days gone by, my DH would have easily fixed many of these items, but his Parkinson's is robbing him of so much. It's hard to face...

I am also worried about the continued availability of these drugs. I am maintaining now, but I know myself well enough to know that without them, I will regain.

Anyway, I don't write something every day--I'm working on checking in more--but I always read everything and appreciate all of you!

Greetings all

Another sunny nice day. There is a new fire inland I think about 30 miles and smoke is visible though it's hard to sort from the clouds. I am trying to find out exactly where but the fire maps only reference obscure creeks. Cal fire people are so awesome.

Doctor apt for annual fog the mirror test. I may ask about wegovy and medicare since I do have a minor cardiac issue. My main issue seems to be a bad case of "I'll do it tomorrow"-itis. Ces't la vie. I am proud of all of you who are rocking these meds. BB raises the perennial issue. We all lost tons of weight and I too am one who got too skinny **** lbs) but slowly regained and then not so slowly. I do think some of us are chemically wired to gain and hold weight. My friend *****cently visited commented on how little I eat. She eats tons and always has and indeed the parents of one of our high school friend thought she must have a tapeworm. She had a very serious leg surgery a few months ago and was bed ridden for a long time but gained no weight. Geez, where do I get those genes?

Yep the naughty horse theory came from one time at the races when I saw the horse reach out and try to bite its escort pony. The jockey bonked it on the head with his fist. That horse won.

DD interesting that the teacher-with-a-past was invited. Seems like she tried hard to fit in. Guess we have all had that uncomfortable situation where we find ourselves at a party with someone we have had issues with. Did you ever learn the true events? Glad you enjoyed the event with others.

Yay Paula countdown to DH retirement. Even though I retired young it still took a lot of planning - like a year - for me and DH to get everything done plus maintain a little secrecy until our time. All worked out.

CC glad you had fun with cousin. Cousins are like siblings with less baggage.

Halibut last night was pretty good. I just cooked it in a skillet with no breading. hamburgers tonight.

Cheers. Diane S
