When I grew up,and as we raised our own kids, Thanksgiving day celebration was just that, celebrated on Thanksgiving day with leftovers till there were no more. Of these days, and especially this year, Thanksgiving is all over multiple locations and dates somewhat close to the 4th Thursday of the month.

Mind over matter. Powerful, right? ! So, I'm sitting here, having a cocoa coffee with cream, no less, pondering just this... where is my mind as the holiday season begins.... December 1st will be the first month since last April with a net gain- 2# m/l. Fine, because I needed them. However, with my knowledge of past experience with this issue---makes me nervous and anxious. Every time in my life I ever lost weight, I gained it back.
Now, here I am again. I'm eating whatever as I please with full impunity.
What Is my mind? Am I eating all this food for intentional weight gain, or have I awakened the carb monster and head hunger giant? What I really want (opposed to what I say I want ) can be two different things. The important question is, Bonnie, do you want to be/get well, or is the pleasure of food gradually returning you to another regain?

Yesterday the word for the day here was gratitude and thankfulness. Today's (mind over matter) comes knocking at my door courtesy of Liz, and like yesterday reminds me of a Bible passage -John 5; one that speaks to me strongly and more deeply than the obvious- when Jesus asked the invalid by the pool, "Do you want to get well?" (and then advised) "pick up your mat and walk". That little gem was immediately pasted on the console of my treadmill some little time after VGS. It comes to my mind sometimes when I find myself willingly behaving in ways that keep me stuck to that bad and sad situation/space. The question is- Bonnie, do you want to get/be well?

Thanksgiving Day continues (#3) DS#2 arriving and staying a few days- and 2 new recliners to be delivered for Kurt's TV room. Can't wait to see the old ones exit!

Sunny and calm, but cold here. Hats, scarves and mittens required for Swanny's outandabouts.....

PS you all do know just what an amazing sounding board this forum is, and all due you.

I hope you're in store for a great beach club day. We have 20 degrees, and some sun, so indoor activities! For the next 4 months!

The driving hither and yon went okay. When I was alone in the car, I listened to the 70s Sirrus channel, volume cranked, singing as loud as I wanted. It passed the time.

DD has lost about 50 pounds. She looks like herself, beautiful, just a smaller silhouette. I'm so pleased for her. She is in a good place, with her school almost done, (2 more Saturdays!), and a job offer on the table for the exact position she wants in January.

DS's girlfriend was incredible and gracious after being thrown into a group of over 30 people. She is so fun to chat with.

My parents did great, after some resistance earlier in the week to having help. My brother was so helpful too, going over to their house the evening before, making sure the portable oxygen generator was charging, and then helping them get into the car etc. Christmas, we will bring dinner to their house.

DH agreed to work this morning, setting up Black Friday at 5am. I didn't even hear him leave. He will be home at 10am, and well go out for coffee, and later, see Wicked. Hopefully, DH gets a nap in between.

Enjoy the post holiday glow!

Still at hotel so no weight but that may be just as well. I fully partook in appetizer eating and had a full plate for dinner yesterday. Less than most other people but more than my usual. I took my 1/2 dose yesterday but it didn't seem to make a big difference in my appetite. Mind over medication.

We might stay on the pull-out at the house tonight but I'm not sure that will be as restful. Justice would probably be happier but he did sleep for part of the prior night with DSD and her husband.

Today the guys are golfing and the rest of us are going to the beach club. Hopefully the weather cooperates. First we will pack up here and go back to the house to walk Justice.

Enjoy your day with family and friends or just resting. No Black Friday shopping here as that is the opposite of restful IMO.

Have a fitting Friday!

Interesting that your food routine sounds like Paula's. Now I wonder if that is common for a lot of families.

Sounds like an enjoyable Thanksgiving for you. We used to have a squash dish every year which sounds similar to that sweet potato pie one though it wasn't overly sweet. Unfortunately DS has made it a few times recently and tweaked the recipe so it is closer to what you described and I can't eat it that way.

Maybe people moved up Christmas decorating because Thanksgiving was so late this year? We are starting this weekend.

I had never ever twigged on how the last part of that Bible verse might apply to my own satiation issues: "And she ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over." That's awesome!

Greetings all

Great sunny day here. I made cheese crisps and green beans with blue cheese and walnuts to take to our friends. Only seven people there this year which reminds us of those we have lost. Grateful for that group of friend and this group as well.

So we had a nice dinner and good wine and an excellent apple pie for dessert. I ate a few bites of DH pie piece. Yum. Someone brought a sweet potato dish which was gawd awful. Had a ton of sugar in it, some kind of brown topping I could not identify, and peanuts on top! Gross! Hostess insisted I take some home but its going straight the trash. Even so it was a great dinner and good company and I should not complain.

DD sounds like your DS girlfriend is a keeper. Hope so. Glad the holiday plans worked.

Ditto Liz - all good in spite of the air mattress chronicles. You no doubt got better rest where you stayed.

CC enjoy your friends. Kirby will too!!

Driving home after dark we spotted Christmas lights all over the neighborhood. Guess its ok but people sure rush holidays!

Our team plays tomorrow so it's back to the routine. Paula I hope you stay warm at the Packers. A night game!!! Brrrr.

Anyone going shopping tomorrow? Not moi. Diane S
