Drippy, drizzly day today. DH is supposed to play golf at 10:30, but that is up in the air. I have to repack for Aruba. At least I isolated the stuff for Aruba that came here from Florida when I unpacked earlier this week.
DH worked in the yard again yesterday morning and is very sore. But he is done I hope (unless he ends up having to mulch when we get back). In the afternoon we went to Provincetown and just meandered around. We walked through the west end where there are all kinds of interesting homes on the water - DH had never done that. We had a glass on wine/beer at a bar on the water before we drove back. A second beautiful day outside after the same on Tuesday.
So 3 small world connections yesterday: I got a note from a person in the FB group where the people were being snarky - he was a neighbor of mine growing up and used to deliver our paper (he is a bit younger). He lives here year round now. Then at dinner last night we started chatting with the couple next to us. Of course there is the where are you from originally? DH and the husband grew up next door to one another! They exchanged phone numbers so we can get together when we are back. When DH called his sister to tell her, she informed him that another acquaintance from their town is going to Aruba on the same flight as us and staying in the same resort. Weird to have 3 of these in the same day!
Not sure we will get a good Justice walk in this morning but I will have to look for a break. Time to start organizing the packing. Have a thumbs-up Thursday!

Tears in my eyes! What a fantastic end to your amazing teaching career

I love hearing about your connection to the kids (and Peps too). That will be your biggest miss. It was weird when I handed in my equipment the last day and went home without it. I didn't miss it though.

Seems like we get your weather the next day (we are supposed to be drippy today). Rhubarb crisp - yummm!

I agree about DH's decision - I always had my lawn mowed on the Cape since we didn't always know when we would be there. Previously when I suggested it he had been resistant, but now he apparently has decided it will work best. He is very sore from all the work but hasn't even finished it (the mulch needs to be spread). I wonder if kids will do it this weekend (they arrive today)?

I concur on hiring out Spring Clean Up of Cape Cod yard! Great call on Mike's part. I can't remember if it has been 10 or 15 years since I stopped doing all yard maintenance, but it has been WELL WORTH every single penny spent. It frees up a lot of time for me. What my guys can do in 30 minutes once a week took me several hours each week - hours that I really didn't have. Cleaning out the creek each summer takes them about 3-4 hours. It took me a week each summer! Something to be said for having heavy duty tools and a system and extra help!
201.something.... i forget.
I didn't work much today. I did an extended session with my SDC littles right when school started. IT WAS AWESOME. Working with them was the most fantastic way to end my actual teaching. I went back to teach this group for me. The motivation was on the selfish side. I wanted to end on a joyful note. I knew the kids in that class would really appreciate an extra session this week and have fun, too. What i did not anticipate was the reaction from the adults. I could tell it meant a lot to the adults, too. Working with those kiddos today was probably the best thing I could have done. They made my heart sing. The littlest guy in kindergarten grabbed my hand for The Ants Go Marching (we march around the classroom in meter) and didn't let go until we had all screamed "The End" with Ant number 10. Perfection! DD, will understand.
So, now I feel done. I am ready to leave it behind. I don't need to go back.
I agree that hiring out the spring yard work will just make life less stressful.
Diane funny you are fighting slugs on your flowers but profiting from slugs on your wine stoppers. :) Beauty and utility of slugs is a matter of perspective I guess. Like many things in life.
Paula happy you get some time with your youngest. Our DD often comes home for more than a week at a time. DS is more elusive, and restless. 4 days in a row is a long visit for him.
I have 11 days of classroom time, but 17 calendar days left. Calendar days matter more to me, because even on the weekends there are often emails and the mental load buzzing quietly in the background. I'm very curious to see what it feels like to hand my computer in and have my email shut off. To truly be done.
Today's after work activity was buying supplies at Costco for a breakfast we are hosting for our graduating special ed kids. There are of course no funds for this, so it's fueled by teacher donations. Anybody who had collected money at work for a group present etc knows how smoothly that goes. Hopefully the people who asked for another day (after 4 email reminders) will actually pay me, because the money is spent. But if not, this is the last time I'm in charge of the organizing, collecting and shopping for this event. Its a nice way to say goodbye to the students we've been shepherding through the school system these last 4 years. For some its touch and go if they will actually graduate, but we're pretty successful at pulling them across the finish line. These seniors have a special place in my heart. They were my first 9th graders after Covid with no restrictions, no masks, no online, no hybrid, just regular school. After 2 years of disruption, they were absolutely squirrely and had no academic stamina, but they were seemingly overjoyed to be back at school for the social parts and they were a hoot. I enjoyed their good natured antics so much.
Still misty rain here, and still my plants are unmolested. They already look bigger to me than on Friday and Saturday.
125.2, back down!
Like Diane's weather, we are having an overcast and drippy day. DH and I went to the Green Bay botanical gardens for me to snap some pics. I got some but unfortunately they are kind of in between blooms right now. Daffodils are gone, tulips have seen better days and peonies and lilies are not quite ready. I'll have to try and return in about 2 weeks! Membership has it's perks!
Made another rhubarb crisp as the one I made the other day got inhaled (mostly by kids). DS3 is staying until June 7th! Miracle of miracles! He rarely hangs out at home!
Planted my herbs and hanging plants last night. DH wanted flowering plants for the hanging baskets but when I reminded him that they need to be watered daily and dead headed he agreed to stick with the sedums that I have hung for several years. They do well with little effort! I could always stick in a few fake flowers for a pop of color!
Liz, glad DH is going to hire out the Spring lawn care. Makes sense and then when you guys get there the job won't be so onerous.
Diane, do you have a website for your slugs? I am genuinely interested in a wine stopper!
Tonight is fish tacos for dinner. I'll bake some tilapia with Mexican seasonings and serve with mango, guacamole, pico and a chipotle sauce. Easy and healthy!
Greetings all
It is overcast here today but calm and dry. Nice and cool. The house is being cleaned and I am sitting here like a slop in a bathrobe. Soon this will be your life DD!
Gallery duty this afternoon and I need to stop at the bank for small bills. Sales have been good this month - almost making up for lousy early months.
Liz I think it is wise of your DH to just hire the yard clean up done. He does not like it and the kids are just not going to step up so for family peace just pay someone. Seems dumb that the kids won't help but if they won't, they won't. Glad you had a nice day of visiting and fun. Bet your climate is kind of like that here - cool ocean.
We watched a series Grosse Pointe Garden Society. Another comedy drama about rich people getting in trouble. Also started Government Cheese - another absurd drama.
CC hoping Kirby is coming around and can lose the cone soon. I heard something on NPR the other day about ultra violet coating that is on most glass that can somehow be activated with light to deter bird strikes. Didn't understand it but you might look it up.
Yay Peps on the final class being a fun one. Enjoy it.
Well the sweet peas are still alive and maybe even growing. Slugs have not found them yet.
Well almost time to pack up and get to work. Don't want to get fired from my unpaid job.

Love that you get to teach your favorite group of kids once more! Perfect way to finish off your career!
