When my DH's mother passed away, we had been married 2 years. He had multiple packages of briefs his mother gifted him every Christmas, Birthday etc. I remember the first time he had to buy his own, it seems it was years later. It was kind of bittersweet. I've never bought underwear as a gift, but I do believe nobody can have too many socks, so those are usually stocking stuffers.
Love the tree and the art behind it!! And I could go for a winter setting like that. I'm guessing after Midwest life, one never underappreciates A nice day in December.
I'm afraid that dissapointment is sometimes the fate of my DH. He is so thoughtful in gift selection, and while I value giving gifts, I'm just not as creative as him. Sometimes I get a really inspired idea, which is so fun, knowing how much he'll like it. This year I'm not too inspired. :( Luckily for him, DD inherited his picking the right gift gene, and she helps her brother too, so he does get very sweet gifts from our kids.
I got DH a couple of nice shirts he can wear to the clubhouse because he only wears Hawaiian shirts and they are getting a bit old (and he never buys stuff like that for himself), a Fitbit mostly to monitor his heart rhythm since that has been a concern, and some new underwear (again because he won't buy any new ones until they are falling apart). So funny that he was happy with the latter because his mother used to give him new ones every Christmas but she died in 2019. No wonder they needed replacement!

Your DH is definitely the best. My DH stinks on presents in most ways and admits it. I love him but it can be disappointing personally plus I feel a burden trying to get something for everyone in his family. He says it isn't necessary but it really is in my mind. I gave some major hints on what I wanted for Christmas and he didn't take me up on it. Kind of disappointed...

Home insurance here is definitely an incredible mess. Super expensive and they are requiring roof replacements in half the normal time. Car insurance is also out of this world (for a variety of reasons).

Greetings all
Cold and drizzly here but I still go around without a coat. I am not outside for more than moments so who needs the baggage. Went to the gym and did my waddling. No grunting today unlike the other day which had so much grunting I thought would end in a birth announcement! After that I went to the studio and did some glazing and stopped at the hippie grocery store for a pot pie. Yesterday was hijacked by my studio buddy who called and wanted to come watch football but did not show up until the game was almost over. Channeling CC as per having my time wasted. Later we watched a movie "Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris". It's cute and funny and worth it if you want something light hearted. I was just not up for Killers of the Flower Moon or other heavy stuff.
Liz you are done with Christmas stuff???!!! I have barely started though I do have a couple of things. Must go to the winery to shop.
And DD those cookies! So fun. Make lots.
Hmmm Paula lower home prices in Florida. Makes you think. Warm is pretty appealing.
So I am struggling with gifts for adult men friends. For one I got some fancy nuts from Sunnyland farms but the other is a mystery. The internet advertises a set of pens that say "Fuck it all" on them which I think he might like but it's also kind of rude. Over the years I have given deerskin work gloves, car flash lights, gift cards from health food store and wine.
Peps you rocked the wine colored suit. Hope the services were good.
So we get the pot pie tonight. And tomorrow. Cheers. Diane S
I am so fortunate that one of DH's love languages is gifts. He is happily ordering all the gifts, and will wrap them too. He also did all of this year's decorating. Did he do it exactly how I would? Nope. Will I say anything like don't you think this would look better on this table? Definitely nope. Will I make sure to stand under the mistletoe he hung up when I get home from work? Yep!
I am in charge of entertaining and food both at our house and my parents house. That's probably my love language. The thing about that is it's a fair amount of work compressed into a small amount of time. I try to make some things ahead of time, like stuffed pasta shells, but I have limited freezer space. Depending on the weather though, I can often move the cookies to a bin on a shelf on the garage and use nature's freezer!
More baking today, because I do enjoy it.
Oh Paula, your mention of possible price drops on Florida housing got my winter dreams reignited. I am not enjoying this weather at all! Even if there ends up being good deals, I don't see how we could make it work. But all is not lost. I am reading a lot about being a budget world nomad, and there are some interesting options. In the end, maybe this is the destiny that's calling.
Well the paper is read, the tea sipped, and the hair tied back for baking. Let the cookie games continue!
