We are sitting on the lanai watching a couple of guys fishing in the marina. Yesterday there were manatees swimming around but we haven't seen any dolphins yet. At the beach, DH was near 2 turtles when he went swimming.

So the house is sold! On the market for 2 days, and the first couple who toured it made an offer way over asking price with essentially no contingencies. The offer expired last night at 8:30 because they didn't want the open house to take place. The proposed closing date was the day before DD's wedding so we asked for an October 11 closing and they agreed! The inspection is on Monday - I don't expect much other than it being pointed out that the ho****er heater is 10 years old and a couple of the faucets have a bit of a drip. So strange to be selling the house I loved, but apparently this couple fell in love with it the same way we did. Our offer 15 years ago was also very aggressive to forestall anyone else having the opportunity to bid. I felt sad last night as did DS when I told him this morning.

We are going out on a boat today with friends, then to a dinner dance tonight hopefully at the Beach Club (weather permitting). Time to get cracking. Have a scintillating Saturday!

Neither DH nor I have ever heard of the Long Bar. We will have to look it up.

I have not seen the Auschwitz exhibit but I believe you are correct that it is a traveling one. Since we will be going to Poland to visit DH's DS at some point in the next couple of years we will likely go to the camp itself. Not something to really look forward to but really important that we never forget how people can do such terrible things when they are led by an evil leader.

How sweet your DH was (and is). I'd keep them forever too.

Stiletto shoes...I used to love them but no way can I wear anything much higher than an inch or so these days. I have the bunions to prove how much I loved them!

Yay for friends realizing you aren't running a hotel! It's so exhausting to have overnight guests, though one's adult kids aren't usually too difficult (maybe because they can always help themselves and don't want or require as much attention as friends).

Today started with coffee at a local cafe, then we left daughter working on her laptop, and went to an Auschwitz Exhibition. I am not clear on all the details, but I'm assuming its a traveling exhibit. A lot of the artifacts came from memorial museums in Europe, and are here in the US on loan. Powerful presentation, with a tone of respect and remembrance similar to the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. I held it together for most of the exhibit, but dropped a few tears as we left. It still overwhelms all my understanding of what it means to be human and yet such outrageous hatred could exist, and it chills my blood to know such hatred can still exist, and does.

After standing in the bright sunlight for a bit, DH said we should go someplace and discuss/process what we saw. Somehow, googling ****tails and patio, we ended up in a very top drawer bar: The Long Bar, where I ended up with the most expensive ****tail I've ever consumed, more expensive than NYC. It was a lovely setting on the 17th floor of what I still don't know what it was: hotel? residences? both? $77 for 2 drinks, shared appetizer, and tip. I guess sometimes you just need to go for it.

Once back to DDs apartment, we relaxed, then met our friends for dinner at a much more normal venue. They loaned us their beach chairs and beach wagon for our upcoming week. :)

In a little while we go to pick up DS at the airport. A full day, with a gambit of emotions. Tomorrow, the beach.

I still have several pairs of stiletto shoes that I keep because they are so lovely. Some are vintage, because I bought them in 1980 when I was an exchange student in Brazil. One pair I will keep until I die: I was admiring these red, snakeskin pumps in a window while shopping with DH. He went home, looked in my shoes to see my size, returned to the store and bought them, and gave them to me for Christmas the first year we were married. Can't wear them anymore (my calves cramp), but I still love them.

I read The Yellow House. I've read more compelling and perhaps better organized memoirs (it felt a bit disjointed to me at times) but it was still a very good read, and gave a searing account of what happened to people during Katrina.

I did a good closet purge today. I realized that I've been maintaining now for almost 3 months. So far, knock on wood, it's been pretty easy, kind of like it was early on after surgery. But, of course, since my weight has fluctuated a great deal in the last 10 years, my closet was STUFFED with clothes in a wide variety of sizes. I decided to keep only one size up and only nicer quality things. So I was able to set aside quite a bit. I also decided to give away multiple pairs of beautiful stiletto shoes, which I have been keeping mostly to admire as art forms...finally admitted I just am not going to wear them anymore and someone should enjoy them!

Liz, I always now have a back up Kindle as I had one die on me once while on vacation and it was quite traumatic! Enjoy the new one.

Peps, wow, cholesterol of 164 is really good. They never do my A1C either...I guess they would if my fasting glucose were high. I second Diane--buy the new clothes!

CC, I feel your pain. I do the tech for us, too, and something always seems to be going wonky. But I don't have to run to a barn w/in 2 minutes!

Back home from La Crosse. Emma dog, even with meds, got pretty stressed with boarding and now has diarrhea. Poor doggy! Making chicken and rice to try and settle her belly.

We had a good time with my besties last night. Tapas restaurant never disappoints. I had cucumber slices with avocado, grilled shrimp and a sriracha aoili and two glasses of Riesling.

I'm pretty hungry today. Either the new dose isn't working as well for me or I didn't give myself the correct dose. Will for sure use the new vial on Sunday.

DC #1 will come over for dinner. I ate at 4 since I was so hungry! We are just having grilled ham and cheese so it won't be hard to make them theirs when they get off work at 6. DS#2 is coming over for the night with several friends. They will sleep over and then take off for Door County tomorrow (an annual birthday tradition for his best friend). I'll be making them all breakfast before they take off. Welcome to the Weber's Bed and Breakfast!
