Ugh! Even as a first-year teacher in Mississippi in 1968 I didn't have to do that.
I lasted only one year as a teacher. Loved the kids, but knew I needed a different path in life.

So happy it is working for your DD. I could see it in your pictures!

I'm old enough to have had to sign a morals clause as part of my teaching contract in Athens, Texas- for all I know, perhaps it is still required!

So glad you're finding your groove Liz, and hanging out in a good spot weight wise. Crazy to have to be strategic about not getting too low! This med is working great for my DD too. Her goal is to lose 60 pounds and she is down 25 in two months. She's so happy to have something that works.
Heading out to my parents house in a little bit. That will probably take up the whole day. But when I wake up tomorrow, I will have a stretch of days to putter as I please. I just got the book The Women, so looking forward to that.
Big storm last night. Right now, it's pleasant and should get to mid 80s. Tomorrow the high predicted is 69. Too cold for August, but could be a great day for tea and reading.
My parent's winter home was in a community founded by the Nazarene Church and required board approval and a faith statement to purchase there. I grew up in that culture, but it wasn't where I landed as an adult. I used to joke that I was doing reconnaissance of "the other side" when I visited. What I learned: yes the other side had some real flat out a holes, but also some kind and well meaning people who did a lot of good work in this world: food shelves, habitat for humanity, prison visits. Within my extended family, there are huge disparities in political viewpoints. Our solution: Unspoken agreement to never discuss politics at Thanksgiving, because we love each other and want to be able to keep gathering.
I think FB is a good forum for friendship and support, not for political statements. IMHO
I picture you classic in jeans and a white button-down!
Justice was named by the shelter *****ceived him as a stray. Deceased DH loved that since he had been a lawyer so we kept it (and maybe it contributed to feeling like he was meant to be with us).

Liz, I'm glad to hear Justice is improving, but jeez he must still be tired. BTW, how did he come to have the name Justice?
Peps, I do hope you get to see the Badlands.
DD, your "love language" observation is spot on. It's interesting how people settle on how to show their devotion to each other. DP (stands for Dear Partner, since we're still living in sin) cooks for those he loves. He's a wonderful cook and enjoys it so much. And I adore everything he cooks. There's a real difference between those who cook well and those who are truly artist-chefs.
It's a beautiful morning here. Sunny, but with fog in the bottoms. We'll be driving back to Kentucky today for the week for medical visits and a social event we're looking forward to. We'll come back home Friday.
About my ongoing quest to find pants that fit ... yesterday I ordered some trousers from Uniqlo, a place I seldom get to shop at since the nearest Uniqlo store is in Chicago. I also ordered a couple of blouses. They won't arrive for a few weeks, but I'm fine waiting because their clothes are just my style--unmuddled and classic, reasonably priced, and none of those boho smocked and ruffled messes in busy, 13-color fabrics. I love dressing up, but most days I'm happy to wear jeans and a white button-down.
On a different note, yesterday during a phone call with one of my brothers I said (with a smile in my voice), "Let's not fall out over politics this year like we did 8 years ago!" (Back then, he unfriended me on Facebook for 2 years.) He came right back with a smile in his voice and said, "I agree! I won't comment on your page, and you don't comment on mine." Just another example of why it's good to approach touchy topics with respect. I'm proud of us both.
That's all I got today. Let's make it a good one.

Weight 122.4. Unchanged from yesterday though I had fried scallops for lunch for the first time in a year. I had been craving them and now I am all set. They were good but my gut was a bit uncomfortable with the fried part afterwards (like Peps and the ice cream).
Justice continues to improve though he is a bit less lively than usual. No one else would notice, but on our long walk yesterday he was very slow on the uphills (I carried him up the steepest one). He is also more careful on the stairs and sleeping a lot more heavily. No cat chases right now.
Today is our fourth dating anniversary so we are going to Boston overnight and eating at a Ruth Chris restaurant located in an historic building - the old city hall. DH loves their steaks and I want to eat in that building. A threat of showers over the day may dampen what we do. We are contemplating various museums.
Peps, I don't know how I manage the travel either. DH always traveled for his job so it is in his nature to be on the move. I have learned how to go along and obviously have been in some great places but I would be just as happy being at home. I definitely prefer staying for an extended period especially if the time to reach a location is long.
Time to finish my coffee before the bus leaves at 7:30 for breakfast (LOL that Paula used the phrase yesterday). Have a scintillating Sunday!

Must be nice for your friend to have the different generations in the household. Though I would guess tiring too?
With all you artistic folks chiming in, I'm guessing finalizing on paint for the building is a challenge.
