OMG - the poor dove.
I didn't see your response to Ann at first. I guess Wifi calling doesn't work? I have to use that in my home (Verizon). I wonder why it doesn't work there?

Ugh, so with all the towering red rocks and canyons here the sight lines to the cell towers are awful especially for my neighborhood as we are a ways out of town. And the tower equipment is pretty old here (no 5G). So most of the time I have 1 bar or "SOS" showing on my phone.
Which would then make WiFi calling seem like the answer except no matter what I try, it doesn't work in my house with my iPhone 16 (or 15 or 14). I can hear them, they can't hear me. And being in the middle of nowhere, landlines aren't available. My last ditch effort was to try a VOIP line (an internet phone number that doesn't involve cell towers). And that breaks up constantly too. So my only option is to go outside to talk on the phone. Which is fine when the weather is nice, but if it's snowing/raining or 20 or 100 degrees or blowing like crazy, it's not fun!
We have an unusual kind of internet in my neighborhood given our remoteness called a WISP and while it's pretty fast most of the time, something about it doesn't seem to play well with wifi calling, but none of the experts can tell me why. I've thought about putting in Starlink, but that feels like an expensive prospect for something I'm not sure will fix the problem.
Far more than you even wanted to know about my phone issues, I'm certain!
125 lbs. (was 123.2 yesterday, which freaked me out--lowest in a year)
Liz, you've got a lot on your calendar this summer. Best wishes for good airline karma. Same to all others heading around the US and abroad.
And to our outstanding and soon-to-be-retired teachers, I'm so proud of you for all the good you've done in this world and to your imminent retirement rewards.
I think we're only 2-3 weeks from moving in. Fingers crossed.
Heading off now to work on my to-do and errands list.

CC, I missed hearing how/why you can't talk on your phone inside your home ...?
In any event, that sucks big time.

Yesterday entailed chores including cleaning more windows and putting the bird cling film squares on them. One particular bird splat required getting out the Pink Stuff and a Scrubby Daddy sponge to remove. Ick. Sun baked bird remnants. Not an hour after finishing the big windows in the kitchen, a mourning dove flew into it and died. So much for the bird cling things and my clean window! Then later I was sitting out back talking to my folks (because I still can't talk on the phone in the house - however frustrating you can imagine that is, it's so much more), and I could see a raven landing outside the kitchen. I could not believe it when it then flew over me with the dove in its clutches. Dinner is served. Ravens are really enormous and apparently very strong.
Today will be more little chores I'm trying to tick off the long list. Hope you all have a good day!

Yesterday I got my hair done - she does such a great job. She is from Massachusetts and is a friend of one of our friend's daughters. What a find! I am going to go to her exclusively - my summer appointment is booked for when I am here for DD's anniversary bachelorette party. I feel a little guilty about not seeing my Cape stylist anymore who I have gone to since 2014.
While I was at the hairdresser we were talking about useful lives of appliances and I suddenly had an epiphany that the ho****er heater here was old when we bought the place. When I got home I checked and it is 15 years. Since the usual lifespan is about 10 years, it is a flood waiting to happen and our condo is on the 3rd floor. So the plumber is coming tomorrow to replace it before we go home. My insurance agent (younger DD) was pleased to hear that we are being proactive.
Oh and DH's SIL must have sensed my complaining! He called DH last night to tell him that the deck and outdoor shower are done and the fence is going to be started in late June. Yay! That means Justice and the grand-dogs will have a safe yard to run around in by the time we get back from Europe in mid-July.
Today DH is playing golf for the last time here and it is going to be the hottest day yet - likely going to set heat records. I have water aerobics, then may start some housecleaning that needs to be done before we leave. Italian dinner at the clubhouse with friends tonight.
Today is DH's weigh-in day. If he loses the 2 pounds he is hoping for he will have reached the lowest weight that he remembers recording as an adult. I think his ultimate goal is another 6 pounds under that but he really isn't sure.
Have a whimsical Wednesday!

What's up with guys liking scary movies? My DH loves action movies. He has hinted about going to the new Mission Impossible movie on Friday. I would really rather not - I went to the last one with him on the day it opened and hated it. Not how I want to spend one of our last afternoons here.
That 3 1/2 weeks is going to fly by especially after you get to the 2 weeks is going mark.

I love that your Brazilian Mom was so insightful (and what she said about your DH and you)!

I unfortunately did marry my first love who was eldest DD's father. What did I know about relationships and compatibility at 17? We stayed together just short of 5 years because of our daughter and because I loved his parents too. There was no way to make it work in the end. But I never regretted having my daughter and I have been truly blessed to be married for 38 years to deceased DH and to meet and marry current DH. The first marriage taught me a lot about what makes a long-term relationship last.

You are a very special person - don't rule it out. If it happens, it does, if not you have lots of friends who love you
My eldest DSD is similar - turning 52 in a couple of weeks, never married and almost no serious relationships. Super smart, attractive, and interesting. She doesn't need a guy but doesn't completely think it is out of the question - if it just happens.
