The world famous Shark! He actually looks a little dangerous.

Liz, congrats re your SS raise! And best wishes to your daughter who has to have a second biopsy. That's a bummer.
Little new to report here. DH continues to be pain free and is no longer limping. Remodeling proceeds.
Yesterday was "the first day of spring" here--mid 60s, sunny, no wind. I walked in the neighborhood and lover being outdoors. While I was out running errands, it felt like every one on the street was high and happy!
Book club was last night--Tinkers by Paul Harding who won the Pulitzer in 2009 for his first novel that was published by a very small press. I liked the book, but like most of the books we read it wasn't your regular kind of book.
I really like my book club--5 women in our 70s, retired professionals, travelers, some mothers, some not, some widowed, some not, some religious, some not, a lot of care-giving experience, 2 cancer diagnoses. They're all lifelong Louisvillians who are my go-tos for local history and culture instruction and insights. In short, we've all been around a while and know s**t. Nobody is afraid to say what they think or to disagree with each other. It's lovely to be around grown-ups.
Last night at one point, because of the book we were discussing, we were talking about motherhood--and when did you know you wanted or didn't want children. Several referenced the fact that our club is a safe space where we can explore and speak our full truths out loud. (This sounds a bit like Paula's church group where they're exploring their life experiences and the impacts those have had on their development.)
All of this underscores the contributions that being in community can make to all aspects of our health--physical, mental, emotional, etc.
I sincerely wish I could live another 100 years and keep on learning about the human experience. I certainly don't think that 79 years is long enough to figure it out!

No bowling yesterday as it was sunny and beautiful. We went to the Beach Club instead.
I called Social Security to make sure the timing was set properly and find out the amount that I will be changing to after my 70th birthday. I have been receiving survivorship benefits until now so my own SS benefits could mature. I am getting a $20K annual raise! And I didn't get put on hold at all - another miracle these days.
Also used ChatGPT to create a packing list for our trip to BVI in 2 weeks. It did a pretty nice job.
I made double the recipe for WW mushroom bolognese last night. So good and I will freeze half of it. Since I hate cooking I love something like that that generates future meals.
Today will likely not be so productive. DH plays golf so I will run him there, then go to water aerobics, followed by Justice walking. Laundry is on the agenda, then we have our last 3 games of the bocce season at 3:00. Somewhat busy day but then tomorrow has nothing at all on the agenda (other than Justice walking) because there is no ladies golf this week due to a Men's Invitational Tournament.
Worried about younger DD who is having some female problems. She had a biopsy last week but they didn't get enough tissue so she has to have a repeat this Thursday. Nerve-wracking at best but this is also the 20th anniversary of the last few weeks of eldest DD's life so both DD and I have that in our head too.
I hope you all have a winsome Wednesday!

Great picture - The shark does look serious about the whole thing!

I have to have To-Do lists written unless they only have a handful of items. I need written shopping lists for everything. By written, I mean on my phone.
You know that cardinals mean someone who has died is visiting you?

So I assume the bailiff calling your name meant you got to leave early? I used to hate being called for jury duty because I ended up sitting there for a day doing nothing and never getting on an actual jury (unlike teachers, lawyers didn't like insurance people). Last time I was summoned here in Florida I couldn't do it because I was out of state so had to defer. When the deferred date came close they cancelled my need to go. I won't have to do it in the future because after age 70 you are not required to serve.

Good luck with the foot (and that pesky 1/2 pound)!

Are you also a fan of the Costco Chicken Pot Pie? I was tempted to pick one up the other day, but it's awful big ... On the other hand if its yummy I could freeze part of it.
When I was called for jury duty I asked to be dismissed because it would be a hardship for my students. The judge later told me he did ask the lawyers to scratch me, but they didn't want to. Apparently they like having teachers on juries. Not gonna lie, I also enjoyed the 7 days on the jury vs. work. No responsibilities other than to pay attention. (I took lots of notes). Got to have an actual lunch hour. Had time to read while in recess. Did not arrive home exhausted.
Someone on our jury actually fell asleep during the actual trial. They were dismissed.
