127.6

Cool here, but above freezing and sunny = good day. We had a light dusting of snow last night, but that's all gone now. Key West or any Key at all sounds pretty good to me right now.

Yesterday we snuggled up and watched the two semifinal NFL playoffs. I'm a K.C. fan, but thought the Eagles played better (against the Commanders) than the Chiefs did (against the Bills). We'll see how that three-peat thing works out in a couple of weeks. I do worry about Chiefs' coach Andy Reid who looks like a heart attack waiting to happen on the sidelines.

Paula, DD is right--get your passports! :) The Interwebz says regular processing takes 6-8 weeks; expedited processing (for $60) takes 2-3 weeks.

I hope we all (including those with Senioritis) have a good week.

MERRY MONDAY! What a wonderful discussion yesterday about art and alternative proteins! I admit I have never had squirrel. I've had venison, elk, duck, goose, pheasant, grouse, horse, and even bull testicles. I have refused icky water fare like eels and sturgeon, but have tried crawdads (not a huge fan), catfish, and frogs.

I am anything but an art snob. One of my favorite forms of art is quilting! I have several quilts that I cherish. I'm also a big water color fan. Something ethereal abou****er color, plus I am able to paint with water color. I never mastered acrylic or oil paints. I also absolutely love sketching. There is something magical to me about pencil/graphite/charcoal applied to paper to create 2D works of art that appear to be 3D.

Okay, food and weight.... Good meeting with the NUT on Friday. Helped renew some of my commitment to get to goal weight. Weight is down to 212.1. Lowest so far on this particular journey.

I've been somewhat off the last week. Perhaps the reason for being an observer here and not posting much. I'm not depressed, but I am feeling some stress about the state of affairs. I don't like how I am seeing politics become personal. As president of the national Airedale club, I am having to deal with an online social media issue caused by a political post that became personal and breeched AKC's code of behavior for a judge. Not what I want to be doing in my down time. Phone calls and many emails were made Saturday and Sunday trying to deal with this sh*t!

DD, not sure if I shared this, but our Superintendent sent out an email letting us know that the district now has a protocol in place should ICE arrive on any campus. WTF?????

I did get a big chortle out of the Danish President's address to President Trump. It was not appropriate, but I did laugh!

Today I want to concentrate on eating and weight loss and put the rest of the world aside. Easier said than done!

I have never been to the Florida Keys. BUCKET LIST!

No weight as we are on Summerland Key.

The most unusual meats I ever ate were pheasant and venison, given to us by hunting friends. I never lived on a farm (or in a city) - suburban girl here. I am humbled by all of your knowledge of art! I have number of watercolors and a few original oil pieces but they are just pieces that appeal to me.

We are on Summerland Key about 25 miles from the southernmost point in Key West. The house is right on the water with a magnificent view and a dock and pool downstairs. Really a lovely place.

Last night DH, the couple we are visiting, and another friend of theirs reminisced about people they grew up with. They all grew up in the same town and 3 of them graduated in the same high school class. Nice people but I didn't have much to offer.

Don't know what today will bring - maybe floating around in the heated pool? I have a book I need to finish for book club on Wednesday night so hopefully there will be time for that. I don't think we will go into Key West itself as we don't have a lot of time here. Today is the only full day as we leave mid-day tomorrow to get back to our little Florida bubble.

Have a magnanimous Monday!

ETA: Beware of OH crashes. Because of your difficulties yesterday, I wrote this in notepad - good thing as I would have lost my first attempt otherwise.

So frustrating that OH sometimes eat our deep thoughts. When it seems wonky I type in notepad and copy/paste in.

Key West itself is a little crazy. Good for restaurants, bars and people watching but very busy. We like staying outside and only going in for day trips a couple of times.

I love your plans for Brazil!

No surprise at the senioritis. I had it too. I was always fairly outspoken at work, but became more so speaking somewhat less politically about where things needed to change. Not sure they cared though...

Now that is a great idea! Those large lithium batteries make me nervous - does not seem good for the environment in the long run.

My Dad used to climb into the rafters of grain barns on Lake Superior's harbor in Duluth and net pigeons for his family to eat. My nephew supplements his family's groceries with venison and fish. He's a very talented fisherman. I am a city girl now and lost my taste for wild game and lake fish.(Except white fish out of Lake Superior, it's like ocean fish).

We used to play with chicken feet after butchering chickens. You can locate a tendon in the chopped off part of the foot, and when you pull it, it makes the chicken foot contract into a scary claw. All things considered, I think squirrel tails are a more pleasing aesthetic.

p.s. We ate squirrel and rabbits shot by my grandpa when we visited. You had to watch out for buckshot. We played with the squirrel tails. Ate the fish he caught. ds
