Patriots Day in Massachusetts is the day of the Boston marathon. Everyone used to have it as a holiday years ago, but now only businesses along the marathon route give their employees the day off. But it is school vacation week up there.

I was shocked to read that the Pope died this morning. I saw that he was able to give his Easter address yesterday. Must have been his time. I am not catholic but my DHs and children are so the only church I have stepped foot in for the last 50 years is the Catholic Church. And we had such a close relationship with the priest at the parish near where we lived for 20 years that I somewhat felt catholic. RIP Pope Francis.

"Linner" yesterday at the beach club was disappointing food-wise. It was really just a somewhat revised regular lunch menu with some breakfast items added. Weird at 3:00. The view and service were beautiful of course but we just had a fairly regular lunch.

This morning I see a new dentist here. This is the 2nd health professional I have moved to in Florida (the first was Justice's vet). I was supposed to have my teeth cleaned at my former dentist at Christmas time but they cancelled the appointment and couldn't fit me in while I was there (not the first time they had done that). So it makes sense to do it here from now on. I am keeping my summer doctor appointment up north, but need to work in getting a new PCP here as well as a dermatologist.

This afternoon our painting/handyman is coming to look at my master bath. I hope he has ideas on how to smooth out the sandy paint and mural.

DD really embraced the notion of Patriots Day when she moved to Boston. It's probably well for all of to reflect on what being patriotic means from time to time.

Pope Francis was a spiritual leader for all of us. Such a decent, pastoral priest. There is much to fix in the Catholic Church, but also much to embrace, and he embodied many of the best parts of the faith. In his last hours he was advocating for the poor and powerless in his meeting with Vance, and then giving all he had left to Easter services. He made me believe that an imperfect, ponderous institution still had goodness to offer.

My Mother has sent me some terrible texts today that I won't go into, about things she shouldn't tell me. My take away: deal with your $h!+ before you reach your last years, or it is going to be a miserable end of life. I'm working on it.

I have a mammogram tomorrow, so I'm using a whole sick day. I always look forward to the annual squish in a weird way for the reassurance that all is well. And sleeping in a bit is always good!

Sorry that you are getting awful texts from your Mom. Wish you didn't have to deal with a toxic relationship with her. I can't even imagine as my Mom is one of my very best friends!

Sorry too for the loss of the Pope. You are right in that he really is a Spiritual leader for all. Can't believe he was able to deliver Easter services hours before returning home to the Father!

So sorry that your Mom does this. She must be very unhappy.

I think attitude through life usually determines how an individual will react to tough cir****tances. My Mom drank after tragedies that were too much for her and was miserable to be around during that period but when she finally became sober she was actually an optimistic, humorous person and rarely complained. I see people my age dealing with lots of past and present issues but pushing through them and enjoying whatever they can. Others take to their couch for any small thing and end up spending all their time there complaining about their lot in life to anyone who will listen.

125.4. I ended up taking a whole dose of my shot yesterday. I think I'll keep jab day as Sunday at least for a bit. It works well with upcoming travel plans and before goal I wanted the most suppression on the weekends and now I don't think I need it!

Did my Jane Fonda step workout again, this time with a level 2 step and it went pretty good, challenging but doable which is just what I want!

Going out for Mexican tonight with DH. I think I'm getting seafood enchiladas instead of my usual 1 a la carte chicken taco. There will be leftovers which DH can take to work tomorrow!

DC1 was hanging out here today but we were busy with our own stuff so didn't pay a lot of attention to them. I think the were disappointed as they left before dinner. Oh well, can't cater to them all the time!

Today is taco Tuesday isn't it? I was going to make them this week but I already cooked something last night that we need to eat the 2 open nights before DSD arrives. Definitely will have to make them for Cinco de Mayo!

I think our children sometimes still think they need to be the center of our attention at most times. It is good for them to realize that now that they are adults that can't always be the case.

It's sunny and windy here but lovely. I made it to the gym and did my walk to Prince. Calculated that I did 6000 steps! Not sure that is correct as it sounds like a lot for me. Stopped in at the studio to retrieve finished things' Rite of passage: somewhere I have lost my first pair of reading glasses. Not at the gym or studio. Can't figure it out. I even went back and looked. Oh well. I have more.

So we had Easter dinner with friends yesterday at the casino restaurant. I got an appetizer of steak bites and it was huge. Had it later as well and there is still some left. It is very good.

Yes RIP Pope Francis. He seemed like a good man who wanted to do the right thing.

Stopped at the store for a few things and fortunately just missed the flock of middle school kids that always swarms from the school down the street. Such energy.

DD sorry you are getting cranky texts from your mom. Too bad she does not realize that anger rarely is good for anything. Glad that your DH can deflect and redirect that stuff. Years ago when Crazy Pat would go off we learned to distract her by discussing a certain politician she hated and she would go off on that rather than us. I wish there was a pill for cranky. (wait, in California there are gummies). Four weeks to freedom!!!

Good work out Paula. And good that you realize that you can't spend all the time dealing with DC! issues. Just is.

So CC I guess you did have to go put that hammer back but no fun having to avoid walking by that house or feeling like it. Does she blame you more than the rest of the board? Seems disproportional. Love the snow picture.
