Two days to Florida departure. Today is sort of busy with the housekeeper coming, my annual mammogram, a hair appointment, and celebration of SIL's birthday tonight. We don't have anything scheduled tomorrow so we can finish packing and get the car ready to leave by 6 am Saturday. Our drive on the first day will be 11.5-12 hours including stops. We have essentially the same time on Sunday so if we are too tired we may add another overnight and finish up on Monday.
Not much else to report except we are preparing for planned eating once we get to Florida. I don't like to say "diet" either - "planned eating" is more palatable and to some extent really reflects what we need to do over the next few months to get ready for hiking in Hawaii (and fitting into my clothes better).
Have a safe and healthy Thursday!

Good morning !! Got Sadie established with Vet here, as I left without her monthly flea/tick/heartworm medication and was running low on her Proin, for incontinence. I really liked their practice, but I had to leave Sadie with them at the door, wait in the parking lot, and speak with the Vet, masked, in the parking lot. I am also getting used to showing my vaccine card to get into restaurants.
I have a tele session with my therapist at noon. Enjoying my walking, but cool weather does make warm comfort foods sound and taste sooo good ! I'm mulling over some thoughts around anxiety, popping up in many posts.

Are any of you mood absorbers? My dad has been in the WORST mood the last two days and I have now entered into self-preservation staying away mode. I seem to hyper-absorb other people's bad moods and it makes me feel like I've done something wrong when it has nothing to do with me. So I told Claudia I was staying away tonight, not having dinner with them and she was welcome to come hang out with me in my house. I don't want to leave her to the wolves, but I'm taking care of myself. He's got lots to be in a bad mood about, but I don't have to volunteer to be a whipping post.
Eating and exercise were good yesterday. I ought to go for a walk now before it rains later...
Sounds like a good plan - I too can be brought into the dumps by other peoples moods (but maybe the opposite too?).

From what you have shared, I'd say that you - and most of us here are empathic people. Without strong and consistently enforced boundaries we easily become beacons for toxicity and negative energy. You knew to step away ! Your self preservation instincts are strong ! Yeah !!

Greetings All
Another dull day in Das Boot. I worked at one gallery for 3.5 hours and that was about all I could do. I don't have to walk much which is good because one leg is now longer than the other and boy does it get to your knees and hips. Fortunately DH came to pick me up and was able to get stuff off a high shelf that I was unable to reach. Nice people came in all day.
I stopped in at the studio and did a few things. Put together a meatloaf this morning since I realize that at 5 pm I have had enough and thats why I don't cook much.
Cecily you are right to limit your exposure to your Dad while he is in toxic mode. Its his anger at his health that is talking but doesn't mean you must be there all the time to absorb it. Been there, done that.
Tomorrow we are actually going out to lunch with friends. One just had a knee replaced so we can be walking wounded together. Then we will take papers to the doctor so I can get a temporary handicapped card. Most places around here are so small that it won't save many steps but a few, such as Target and Costco, make it worth the effort.
I made an impulse purchase of some smoked salmon cream cheese. Its to die for. Why do all unpleasant things in life result in craving carbs and cheese?
Safe travels Liz. And today I was unable to locate an onion that I KNOW I purchased. Dried ones went into the meatloaf. Oh well.
Safe travels Peps also. Knock em dead!!

I agree with Diane O that the empathy quotient is high here, and it's easy to absorb others feelings. Peggy from Mad Men to one of her co-workers: "Stop infecting me with your anxiety!"
Liz, I love a road trip, sounds like yours is more get er done this time. Your first trip down together was a travelogue of the Eastern seaboard.
Diane S., my husband watched Da Boot in some film class in college 40 years ago, and he still talks about it. Maybe I should watch it sometime.
Several vaccinated teachers tested positive for Covid. I need to be more careful about masking. We are having a homecoming pep fest tomorrow, I will definitely be wearing a mask then.
I have heard of several people who have tested positive who are vaccinated. None got very sick and also thankfully none passed it on to others as far as they knew. So the vaccine does work - everybody needs to get it!
