Absolutely practical, though. They do keep the water out and your feet dry and warm. I have a pair of LL Bean duck shoes for dog shows. The heel construction does take time to get used to, FYI.

Actually, those boots have become quite fashionable over the past 2-3 years!  My 17 has a pair, as do many of her friends, and not just because we live in LL Bean country!  I actually worked for one Christmas season in an LL Bean call center.  I may have even spoken to some of you!  :)

This reminded me of my mom, who was 5'2". She hated driving "big American" cars because she had such trouble seeing the front of the car. She loved her little VW Bug and Karmen Ghia when I was little. My dad had a Dodge for a few years that my mom refused to drive! Got to hand it to mom because her size and dislike of big cars kept a sporty car in the driveway at all times! 

Yup I'm 5'2" as well. Your mom and me - small but mighty camp!  Reminds me of when I met Rob, I was a poor student driving a very large station wagon that was a bit like driving a boat. Rob still laughs about how little I looked in it!
