OK, wassup for Thanksgiving?

Well I gotta cook the turkey and such for family. Not especially looking forward to the work. Whats everybody doing to hold the line?  I am just going to make mostly maintainer friendly stuff and i have a lot of locally picked frozen blackberries that will be some sort of dessert.  What is everybody doing to keep it under control?  I am sitting here making my shopping list.  Hubby sleever wants pecan pie. He may get only cinnamon pecans.    Diane

I'll probably go a little lean this week and step up the activity a bit.........

But, in general.....Just another day.......same portions...... just a higher calorie count per meal than normal.....net daily calories may be a bit over.....

Maybe just two protein based meals that day...... Dungeness Crab......Turkey or Standing Rib Roast......Real Gravy........small piece a pie..... a few or 36 potato chips and clam dip.....

Good protein left over for days........

My niece and nephew will probably burn the extra cals off me.......skateboarding, ping pong, basketball, trampoline..... and the dog likes to play...(This is the part I didn't do much of when I was fatboy)

Give the Shrunk Nerd some Pie !!!! Than send him out for a walk !!!!

We are taking a new strategy at my house. My Mom and Sister are coming for the holiday and I was dreading the idea of the whole spread. I've honestly gotten to the point where centering something around so much food feels uncomfortable and unhealthy to me.

So when the Kennedy Center sent me an e-mail blast offering discount tickets for a showing of the musical "Jekyll & Hyde" on Thanksgiving evening (I guess they were having trouble selling out the performance since it's not a cheerful show) I sold them on attending that. Now we'll prepare a much lighter turkey meal for mid-day and off we'll go.

Our menus for their visit: Wednesday night will be assorted grilled meats and grilled veggies. Thursday will be turkey, a vegan sweet potato casserole and a garden salad. Friday will be a homemade vegetable soup in the crockpot. Since I'm now eating vegan, there are things each day I can have with the family while still keeping the meals very traditional.

I am cooking for my immediate family (4) so I am not overdoing it.
I normally fix turkey legs, dressing,Mac n cheese, greens, rolls, sweet potato casserole and have cranberry sauce. I also make some egg casserole for breakfast or a French toast casserole.
Last year I had a spoonful of each item and ate off a teacup saucer. I plan on doing the same this year. I will probably eat really light this wee****il Thursday.

Today is the day I make the giant schleppp to the grocery store and costco for all the turkey day supplies. have been cleaning out the fridge first.

think i figured out a way to make a baked custard with those blackberries and eggs and fat free ricotta. will let you all know if it works.

i think the pecan pie will be little tarts without crust.  just can't bare the thought of a full sugar/fat pecan pie around the house. Gotta see what eggface has on this.

dinner will be turkey, stuffing and gravey but otherwise healthy veggies and light cranberry sauce and such.  just not into big cooking this year.

Diane,

I learned a cool trick at a raw foods class, they took pitted dates and stuffed a pecan in the middle, I swear it takes like Pecan Pie! It is my go to snack when I wanna be indulgent!

Not in maintenance yet but I lurk here when I need motivation and am tired of the drama on the VSG board.....

To avoid the mania that is holidays hosted at my house (with 5 adult children, their mates, the in-laws, out-laws, 12 grandchildren, 1 fur-child, 6 fur-grandchildren) and not near enough alcohol in the world, I rent a "party room" (for $100 bucks it's worth it) and we kinda have a pot luck for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  All other parties are held outside....

I am making the Ham, Turkey, deviled eggs and two casseroles.  I will bring home the left-over meat and eggs but send home the left over casseroles (minus a little for my hubby to eat) with the kids/grandkids.  My oldest daughter is doing all the desserts, my youngest is baking the bread so they will take home ALL their left overs.  Hubby has already agreed to keep any tidbits he brings home out in the extra fridge in the garage.

So although I'll probably overdo on Thanksgiving, despite eating protein first and just tastes of other stuff, I'll burn it all off during the cat fight that is Black Friday shopping!

I'm eating at a friend's house, so I'm going to the gym in the morning to burn some calories, 'cause we're having fresh fried catfish for dinner!  And I'll have a taste of whatever else.  The joy of not hosting the meal - no leftovers sitting in my fridge.  enlightened

I am having the traditional Thanksgiving dinner--turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, that green bean casserole with the fried onion topping, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie.  I'll have a slice of turkey, a tablespoon each of mashed potatoes, dressing, and casserole (I doubt I can finish all of them) and some pie innards, no crust.  Thanksgiving was never a trigger holiday for me so I think I'll be okay.  Then I am sending all the leftovers home with my guests except for some turkey for me.
