Carbs and Maintenance
I'm approaching my 3 year mark, over 2 of them at maintenance, and my weight has been stable(+/- 3lbs) for the majority of that time. We have to find what works for us in particular, share to see if we can help someone else with what we are learning, and JUDGE no one!(at least try)
First carbs are denser in calories, second they are sliders for me too, and third they trigger hunger and cravings for me.
I hit my goal of 160, let carbs sneak back in and gained to 170. You can imagine that was psychologically difficult for me to gain weight. I'm happy to report the carbs are gone and I am back down at goal. Yay! I'm actually thinking I might want to get down to 155 and see how that goes. I have a new boyfriend so I am feeling especially motivated!
I feel for you. Carbs will do that to me too, especially chocolate!
But you should feel VERY proud of yourself! You have identified what doesn't(and what does) work for you, and you are using that to get you to where you want to be! It's so easy to stick our head in the sand and be(and I see it every day on the VSG board), "Woe is me! Why doesn't "x" work for me?" Because we are not all the same, that's why. It takes a much better person to say like you have, "this is my problem area, and I need to deal with it" and then work from there. I have no doubt that you will get to 155 and less
I have found that when I am with my boyfriend, I have no appetite at all. At least for food. ;)
This is also the first time in my life that I am perfectly happy with my body. I was always jealous of friends that are confident in their appearance, and now I'm one of them. Now when my bf tells me I'm beautiful, I actually believe it.
It's harder to lose weight now, but it's totally doable. I just went on a 10 day vacation and stayed on my diet the whole time- I never would have been able to do that before!
I am one of the lucky ones as long as when we say "carb" we are talking about a baggie of triscuits with some cheese to have as my second breakfast (really, I'm a hobbit at heart) but not Ritz crackers - which is a whole nother beast for me.
or oatmeal but not Wheaties
or a bowl of berries but not a cookie
or honey on my yogurt but not ice cream
and so on. I really like MacMadame's post. her reality and mine are very different, but add up to a similar "I eat what I want" experience. with me it's I usually eat what I want because if I haven't been having cookies, I don't want them.
once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.
