Back on track plan from an 18+ year veteran
You are no dofus!!
She does drink a LOT of protein shakes, but I was reading some of them as either/or. But as long as your calories were where you needed them, AND could be a good option. So yea, in the heavy craving stage, I believe she is saying that, theory being having that much protein on board will help keep you satisfied and mellow out cravings. remember, what she is talking about too, is a getting back into swing, getting yourself away from the sugarsmack monster!
A lot of the folks on the LW board drink a good share of protein drinks. I drink 3 anymore just to make sure I get enough protein, since real food does not seem to go into/stay in my system.
Boo. Ah well - at least there's cake batter flavor! :}
Have you transcribed forever? I have for a good 18ish years now. I miss working with real live people, but I am thankful to still have a job.
I have been trying to get out for a while though, because my husband gets freaky when the money fluctuates (like it will on production, feast or famine ya know), but I only had to sell my set of reference books ONCE.
Never again, never selling them again until the day I pop my clogs, then whoever cleans out the house can do whatever with them. :}

Brandilyn,I'm confused. Is she saying to drink 5 protein drinks plus eat??? Just the 5 protein drinks would be 150 grams of protein, right? Sorry I'm such a doofus. LOL
Also, been meaning to tell you I've been a transcriptionist for 30 plus years. :)

Sorry, but that's crazy talk.
I respect VitaLady for much of what she does, but I don't agree with her approach of using protein shakes for most of our calories and just nibbling on food in between. It works for her but it's not going to work for everyone. It sure wouldn't work for me. I have issues with having more than one protein shake a day personally. I get protein shake fatigue! Plus, I find solid food more mentally satisfying.
Also:
-there is no scientific evidence that we can only absorb 30 g of protein at a time and, in fact, there is scientific evidence to the contrary
-you don't need to drink 64 oz. of WATER a day only as much fluid as your body needs to keep your pee a light yellow color (similar to lemonade). This may be 64 oz., it may be less, it may be more. Everyone is different and has different fluid needs.
Now, if you want to drink more, that's fine. I find I poop better if I drink enough to keep my urine closer to clear in color. (I know, TMI) But, again, that's me. Everyone is different that way.
Plus, it doesn't have to be water. Your body separates out the water from the food and drink you eat as part of digesting it and at that point it's water just as if you drank water separately. Your body can't tell the difference because H2O is H2O.
Also, the vitamin schedule is for someone with RnY or DS. We don't have issues with the ADEKs that those guys do. (And most of us don't have problems with iron or B12 either but some do.)

It's definitely a technique that some RnYers use. But we're not bypassed so trying to drink 5-6 protein shakes a day AND 64 oz. of water would just drive most of us mad and would not have any practical benefit.
Plus, you do have to be careful not to drink too much. If you take in too much fluid, you risk Hyponatremia which is when your electrolytes get too diluted and this can be very serious and even result in death.

Those are some wise words. Sugar is definitely my biggest downfall. I am still trying to recover from my birthday, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. . I wi**** wasn't so hard. I do fine on my own, but I get into some type of social gathering where goodies are served, and my willpower goes out the window. It's almost like I get scared to go anywhere that I know I will be tempted but I can't stay home all the time!
I hope I have learned my lesson. It's been really hard to take off the 8 lbs I gained from going on a sugar binge. It's so true, that once it gets started, the ball is rolling and it's hard to stop it!

I wanted to point out that excess protein, above and beyond what the body needs, can also be converted to glucose in the body and raise insulin levels accordingly.
