Through Thick & Thin
About
Welcome to "Through Thick & Thin" a support group for potential bariatric patients and those that are pre-op, post-op, veterans and revision patients. Research has shown that bariatric patients were 3 times more likely to succeed by attending a support group. Thanks to modern technology not only can we participate physically in a support group but also through this wonderful website that is obesityhelp.com. More often than not our loved ones, though they may try, have no idea what we as bariatric patients go through emotionally and physically. Often times when it comes to bariatric surgery we find ourselves trying to race to the finish line, but having bariatric surgery is simply the beginning of another chapter in our lifelong journeys. Many people avoid physical support groups because they are afraid of judgement and at times afraid they will measure their success to those in the room. While I encourage face to face interaction with your peers this forum is a great way for many to "test the waters" and ask questions you may not get to in a physical support group. Let's face it...there are some subjects that can be uncomfortable and embarassing to talk about when it comes to bariatric surgery and everything that comes with it. Be as detailed or as vague with your profile as you'd like. The most important thing is that you are in community with others with common goals. All of our journeys will differ but with this diversity comes the ability to connect and empathize with each other. As a Certified Bariatric Support Group Leader I must emphasize that you should always run any medical questions you may have by your physician and/or surgeon as they may require their attention. This is not a place of blame or shame but a place of encouragement and acceptance of who you are as you are. Equallly this is also a place to celebrate your triumphs whether they be on the scale or off. So come on in and let's see each other "Through Thick & Thin."General Information
