2013 gastric sleevers

I started out at 43, but I only have about 90 lbs to lose now. Surgery in four weeks. I get asked all the time, "If you can lose 30 lbs on your own, why do you need the surgery?"
JB
My doc (Schweitzer at Hopkins) only requires 24 hours of liquid diet pre surgery.
What's the thinking about two weeks vs one day?

I'm really happy, and a little nervous. I've lost 30 lbs since I first initiated this process via portion control, meeting with a dietician, walking with a pedometer (goal 10,000 steps), and taking a Phentermine each day (30 mg).
I'm keeping my nervousness/doubts in check by focusing on the outcome.
I had major bleeding complications after a total hysterectomy that kept me, and put me back in the hospital for extra weeks in the mid 90's, and that keeps surfacing in my mind.
I'm good with my protein bars, drinks, and liquids for now. Need to stock up on my supplements.
I have an appointment schedule with the personal trainer at work, to begin an exercise program with him post-recovery.
I'll be taking three weeks off from work, with an option to telework the third week if I feel up to it.
Am I missing anything?
Thanks to all who've gone before me, and who stay to offer support!
Hello,
I just started the 2 week diet on Tuesday, and not doing well. I'm drinking the recommended protein drinks and filling in with non-starchy vegetables and flavored water, but I can feel that I am on the edge and will freak out if someone looks at me wrong. How did you get through it? I know this will be worth it in the end, but how do I make it through this part?
Thanks.
I know how you feel! I have used forums before but this one seems particularly hard to navigate to me for some reason. I am trying to set up my surgery in Mexico right now for the end of September or first week in October. I am working on getting my passport right now and trying to find someone who will go with me. My husband will if all else fails but I'd rather him be home with our little girl, that would leave me with the least amount of worry and lord knows I won't need any extra stress or things to worry about when I"m going to another country for a surgery. Ha! It sounds ridiculous but I can't afford the $18,000 it will cost me here in the states, so without this option I would just be doomed to be heavy forever I feel like. I have yo yo dieted since I was about 8 years old. As an adult I have weighed anywhere from 150-265...up and down and all the way back up and all the way back down at least 3 times. I'm pretty good at losing weight, but not worth a darn at maintaining it. I'm tired of dieting, I"m tired of worrying about my weight, I"m tired of having poor self image. That's why I'm taking the risk of going to Mexico and doing this surgery. I feel like its the only hope I have left. I am hoping I can find the answers, reassurance, and support I need to make this journey a little easier here or somewhere. Hopefully we can figure this site out sooner that later.
Have a great day!
:)

So far I'm doing very well. I can't fully get back to my regular routine of swimming 2 x per week, water aerobics 3 x per week and physical therapy 2 hours for 2-3 x per week (for knee and ankle). I have to wait for my incisions to completely heal before I get back in the pool but I've been walking at least 30 minutes every day this third week. I'm looking forward to getting back in the water but I realize I will still need to take it easy at first for the next few weeks. I took 4 weeks off from work (I have over 7 months of sick leave saved up) and I wanted to be completely comfortable with how I need to eat as well as mentally prepared. I'm going through all of my closets and the multitude of sizes and seasons I have so I can be better prepared for the fall and winter months and donate away some of my bigger clothes. :D
I've lost about 10.6 lbs since the day of surgery (I lost about 10 on the pre op liquid diet too). This week has really slowed down/stalled but from what I read that's normal and nothing to worry about. How are you feeling so far?

I did much the same at my hospital stay. One night and I really don't remember much from the first morning. The second day my surgeon visited to check on me and I wasn't really awake enough to even thank him. It was a great experience though, the nurses were awesome!
I am curious to find out if anyone else had surgery with a low bmi and what kind of results you are having following your sleeve. So happy to be on the other side of the surgery! Must say it wasn't as painful as I had expected it to be. My surgeon was awesome and the nurses and facility were great too. What a wonderful experience. My only struglge so far has been the nasty protein shakes but it's so worth the taste!
