I took 2 pairs of shorts / t-shirts - to sleep in - instead of the hospital gown. Can also use those to do all your walking. Separate shorts & shirts for hotel stay - walking around & down by pool.  Make sure everything is VERY Loose around the waist- you actually put on 10# of gas & fluid weight  & feel pretty bloated the first week.

I never understand people and the way they think!  Most of us can and have lost weight, over and over.  They just don't get the fact that we can't keep it off.  I went to my first support group meeting last week and learned a lot about how all the hormones in our body end up working against us and it becomes a vicious cycle of weight gain.

I had to take my sister to my first pre op appointment with my surgeon so he could explain it to her.  He basically told her the same thing I had but he has the degree hanging on the wall to back it up.  I'm so grateful he spent so much time with me answering all the questions!

Yes, those protein shakes are terrible!  I liked them before surgery.  My sister and I used to have them occasionally as a meal replacement with almond milk, frozen blue berries and/or strawberries and they were pretty good.  As soon as I had surgery they were totally nasty!  I also noticed how bad everyone's breath was too.  That part has gotten better, thank God!  I did switch to Trutein protein shakes and they are much better tasting.  I just add water to them.  I will have to check out the Medifast, dark chocolate has always been my favorite!  :D

Nasty Protein shakes.

Maybe you have the same issue I do - Cant stand the smell or taste of Whey protein/

Check your label.

I use Medifast which is Soy based protein - Love the Dark chocolate shakes.

My starting BMI was 36.1, with sleep apnea (using a CPAP machine for over 2 years), high cholesterol (taking lipitor and zetia), and then I was diagnosed in late 2012 with high blood pressure (took an Rx for that too).  I felt like I was a stroke or heart attach waiting to happen.  Plus my ankle and knee were hurting me for years and I started physical therapy in February (still going).

I looked bad and felt bad.  Of course, people would say I didn't need surgery because I wasn't "that big" even though I had all these problems.  I was out of breath and scared I would have the same fate as my father, grandmother, and great grandmother which was stroke.

At 5' 3" tall, 204 lbs was just way too much for my body and my health was suffering..  Since I started this process in January I lost 10 lbs by the time I started my one week pre op liquid diet, another 10 lbs on the liquid diet, and now 20 more lbs since surgery on July 29.  That's 40 lbs total, I'm totally excited.  I know we will not lose as fast as those with a higher BMI but that is perfectly fine with me, maybe my skin will have time to catch up with the weight loss.  I'm not counting on that though for under my chin though.  I can tell it's going to need some surgery.  Whatever took me so long to decide to have this surgery?!!!!!

Pre-op BMI was 38. "Only" .   80 #'s over. just tired of not being able to walk into a store & buy a regular pair of pants. Absolutely do NOT like stretch jeans...

I actually gained the 11 #'s of gas & fluids during surgery. VSG on 8/19.  I am down 25 (plus the surgical gain).  At a stall this week though. And dead tired. Doesnt make any difference how much protein powder I add to my 2-3 tablespoons of food. Just want to sleep.

Surgery was in Tijuana - no problems except the antibiotic gave me Thrush, I am now on my second bottle to Nystatin swish & swallow - throws off all the eating & sipping schedules also.

I will be happy to lose another 10 # by Halloween, then maybe another 10#  by Christmas.  Might be thinking to fast. Oh well.
