Topic: Weight loss rate and burning stomach

I am 55 had my surgery VSG Sept 5 2013, about 3 weeks ago, along with a hernia repair. I have lost 30 pounds so far, 10 of that was from my pre-op diet.  Surgery went great!  I am walking daily as directed.  I am having a little trouble drinking all the water need, but working on it. Its getting easier as the swelling goes down. Just started adding a few soft foods as directed by my doctor for protein. But since doing so my weight loss as slowed to only a pound every couple of days or so and since started eating eggs and greek yogurt, I've been waking up at night with my stomach burning. Anybody else have that happen to them?  Anyway I thought that the weight loss didn't slow down until solid foods were started. Just feeling a little discouraged about what will happen when I start eating solid foods as my weight loss has already slowed down so..Just checking if this is where I should be. Going to Dr next week will talk to him also. Thanks

Hi, my BMI also was 44 when I had my surgery, my DR explained all my options and this is how my Dr explained this surgery is used . Gastric sleeve is used as the first part of a larger surgery preformed on SUPER MORDID OBESITY patients. BUT the sleeve gastrectomy  is also used as a stand alone surgery for patients with MORBID OBESITY with the average BMI category of 35- 40 with illness associated with morbid obesity or BMI greater than 40. Also as I saw posted here before about not having to worry about malabsorption problems related to this surgery. A big plus! Plus Dr told me the bypass can always be done later down the road if I need it. I am seeing wonderful results being posted in our group using just VSG!!  Hope this helps!

Your probably past this by now, But one thing that worked for me is to add a protein shot in when making my sugar free jello. Hope this helps someone.

My Dr told me they have to left your liver some to access your stomach, and the 2 weeks of liquids helps by shrinking your liver so they can access the surgery location easier.

I was told at my boot camp not to bring anything to the hospital, that everything needed will be supplied. Also they recommended wearing loose comfortable clothing to the hospital and to wear that same outfit home. (My Dr only required overnight stay). Worked out great for me!

I had my test done too to find out that I have arthritis in my left hip, an bacteria infection in the stomach which they told me not to worry about because the antibiotics will take of it and my EKG was a lil normal. I think I was just nerves. My was done several time. The doctor told me that she will go over that with me Monday. I will update on monday after my appt.
