I'm 5'6" and 253 lbs and opting for the sleeve because I want to be physically restricted with food intake. I don't want anyone messing with my intestines, I just want the forever lasting procedure with less complications as possible. My BMI is 40. It's all about what you feel is going to work best for you, and with some research and a lot of prayer, I know the sleeve is right for me.

I'll be 29 in July, I'm having my VSG in Mexico as well, on April 26th so not very far away. I'm super excited and nervous too :-) I'm also self pay. Who are you going thru if you don't mind sharing. I'm going thru Ready4achange and Dr. Garcia will be performing the surgery!! He has good reviews and I know a couple people who've went thru him so that helps a lot.

Ok a litte info on me. Im 5'6 and 275lbs. and 33yrs old. Im having the sleeve later this year but im confused because people say that the gastric bypass is better and im also hearing about the DS and that the sleeve is for people with a higher bmi(mine is 44). So based on my stats which is really better for me?

Hi Anne, My name is Peggy and I am from Virginia. I am ( or will be 60) on april 5. About 2 years ago I had went thru everything for the lapband and after I finally got my nerve up , my husband was diagnosed with cancer(doing fine now) but I was scared of having the band inside of me. So I messed up and gained about 12 pounds back and I talked to my nurse yesterday and she said to call my insurance and see if they would approve the VSG and they said yes and the Journey begans again. I am going to my medical Dr. Next week for Blood panels and from there will go to the surgeon and I will probably have to do a 3-4 month supervised diet before my surgery but that is okay , I should have the surgery sometime this summer, but I am glad to find someone my age doing the same surgery. It will help having someone to keep in touch with. Well you have a great day. My highest weight was 293 and I am now 275 but would love to lose about 15 or so before surgery.

Hi all!  My name is Judi (42) and I am in the process for getting insurance approval.  Will probably not have surgery until Aug or later :(  But I am currently meeting with the NUT for the required 6 mo. of supervised weight loss.  I'm using this time to do research and start some of the dietary changes we will face after surgery (like drinking enough water, chewing until mush, no coffee(that's a hard one!!))  I'm deciding between the sleeve and rny.  Let's keep this group going!!!
