Many Infertility Questions:

Have you got pregnant/before/or after surgery? No pregnancy ever :-(  (I am still pre op though)

Did you use any fertility medication to get pregnant? No... did all the testing and found out that DH has a problem too... very low mobility/motility and super low count. Our only options are IVF/ICSI (about $15,000 a time... no insurance coverage) or trying a sperm donor (DH wasn't interested at first)... at my weight I decided not to pu**** that was 6+ years ago. We decided to do foster care and hope to someday adopt while and keep our other options open (I was only 23 at the time).

If pregnant-or- was pregnant how were your moods? N/A

How did/or/do you feel that it took so long to have a child? or/may not be able to have a child? I thank God everyday fo our daughter... she came to us as a foster child when she was 2 days old. We were finally able to adopt her after an unbelievably messy/scary/hard case 10 days shy of her 3rd birthday.  She is amazing and I couldn't love her any more.  I still want more kids, and I haven't ruled out pregnancy... it would be so great to have a baby you get to keep for sure, plus I'd love to have the whole experience, but I am okay knowing it may not happen.  I know that there are other ways to have a family that are equally wonderful :-)

Do you blame yourself? In some ways, but I have come to the place where I really do believe things happen for a reason...

Does it feel like your the only one who couldn't have kids/or/can't have kids? Yes and no... I mean, I KOW i'm not alone and I spent a lot of time on support boards... I knew since I was 19 that there would be problems, so I had time to come to terms with it.  In the time that we were trying to have a child any way we could my sister had 2 and was pregnant with her 3rd... she was very supportive though... but it was still hard :-(

Hi all, I am MrsC - due for VSG in just over a week.  I was diagnosed with -get this!- Stein Leventhal Syndrome a long, long time ago!  I was in one of the first support groups on pcosupport.org - way back when the internet was still in diapers!   At the time, it was the only support site out there and it was a wonderful group!  My journey has been a very long one but I'm hoping for a good ending!

Topic: PCOS and ovulation...
I hope you are all well~
Make sure you get your vitamins in! I have found great success in this hair thinning issue by adding folic acid/ biotin blend...they sure due take some time getting them down...I sure do feel better now that I am 174 instead of 266 or higher! Sorry for the sidebar~

So, it has been 9 months since surgery...
I am now fake hormone FREE! I actually had a natural cycle last month and it was in normal range (34 days). I wonder if I could actually be ovulating. I have felt a sharp pain, a good bit of pressure and CM. I know with PCOS it is common for us to have lots of cervical mucus (CM) and still not be ovulating.
As I write this, I am thinking the only was I will know is if I actually get one of those stick testers.
Oh well, I guess time will only tell...

Have a great weekend~Cheri

Topic: RE: How have the RNY's done so far after surgery?
How far are you out now?  I'm 6 years 7 months out

How much have you lost so far?  I bounce between 109-111lbs lost.  I started at 254 and now bounce between 143-145.

What kind of foods can you eat or tolerate right now?  I can tolerate everything in moderation.  Some of the foods that I'm limited to just a few bites/sips are milk and ice cream.  Sugars I have to keep to <10g/serving or I'll dump.  Milk I've found that I can tolerate about 2oz at a time and ice cream...2-3 licks or about 1 good spoonful.  Anything else goes fine.

How are your PCOS symptoms?  gone!  Well, except for the facial hair which will sadly be there unless I go for permanent hair removal (which is not in my budget).  Other than that I went from no periods to periods,  no ovulation to ovulation (and 2 kids without meds and pg the 1st month trying), no more acne, no more acanthosis nigricans (dark areas of skin), no more skin tags, no more IR or DM.  If it wasn't for my facial hair you would never know that I have PCOS.

What symptoms do you still have?  Just the facial hair now.

What PCOS symptoms did you have before surgery?  Pretty much everything.  No periods (even with Provera), no ovulation (even with injectable fertility meds), AN (acanthosis nigricans...the dark areas of skin behind the neck, elbows...areas like that), skin tags, acne, facial hair, IR and DM (diabetes type 2)...and I think that's it...

I'm very happy with my RNY.  I'm 6.5 years out and still pretty much at goal.  My goal weight is 140 and I'm around 143-145 and that's after 2 kids too!!  I used to wear a size 24/26 and now am a 6/8.  Let me know if you have more questions!

Have you got pregnant/before/or after surgery? Got pregnant once before surgery but had a miscarriage
Did you use any fertility medication to get pregnant? Yes, I have done clomid, injectables with IUI, IVM, and got pregnant with IVF.
If pregnant-or- was pregnant how were your moods? wasn't pregnant for long but only thing I remember was being exhausted
How did/or/do you feel that it took so long to have a child? or/may not be able to have a child?
I am terrified that I won't be able to, I've always dreamed of being a mother. I wish that I could go for a time without thinking about it but I can't. Every day I think about it, and think about the baby I lost.
Do you blame yourself? Of course, what if i wasn't so fat, am I a bad person? what could I have done differently?
Does it feel like your the only one who couldn't have kids/or/can't have kids?
very much so. right now everyone I now is either pregnant or has kids already. the one that bothers me the most is my younger idiot cousin who is now knocked up with twins. my 2 sister inlaws have both had oops babies after knowing my brother in laws only for a few months. they weren't my sister in laws at the time, one was a shot gun wedding. I hate what infertility has done to me. I can't stand seeing babies, or seeing baby things. Infertility has made me so incredibly bitter and I wish I wasn't that way and I try not to be but sometimes it just gets the better of me

Have you got pregnant/before/or after surgery? Not before...hoping after
Did you use any fertility medication to get pregnant? No I decided to try surgery so I would not have to have a baby using lots of drugs
If pregnant-or- was pregnant how were your moods? n/a
How did/or/do you feel that it took so long to have a child? or/may not be able to have a child? It is very hard to even hold babies.  Makes me very sad.
Do you blame yourself? No I know it's genetic
Does it feel like your the only one who couldn't have kids/or/can't have kids? somedays

I had DS surgery in November.  I chose this surgery after reading multiple success stories.  That is, many women who had PCOS and DS surgery and the symptoms disappeared and they had babies (often before was recommended because they were too fertile).  It's been three months.  I've lost almost 80lbs.  My periods are normal.  I'm off the Metformin and the Spironolactin.  Still getting hair in places I don't want it, having break outs and feeling like a teen going through puberty again.  BUT if I can get pregnant without drugs I'll take it.

I was lucky enough to get pregnant after having surgery to remove a cyst and ovary.  I have a three year old daughter.  Since then I have tried Met and Clomid without success.  I am waiting to try to conceive until after VSG this summer.  I'd like to suggest to you and anyone in this same situation a really great group of girls.  I am not trying to take away from this board but I have part of this other board for years, they're very friendly and have a lot of information to share!

Topic: RE: Pcos Age
I never started my period at all. My mom finally took me to the doctor at 17 after some urging from the ladies at Curves because my weight was fluxuating like crazy. I could lose 6 pounds one week, gain back 12 the next. They diagnosed me with PCOS and I've been dealing with it since. I have been through so many doctors who just keep giving up. I think I've found one now who will actually work with me and listen.
