Topic: RE: When did you find out you had Pcos?

I found out I had PCOS in 2/99 when I had my consult with my OB...or rather old OB/GYN.  I was a late bloomer when it came to AF...not even starting until a wee****il I turned 15.  I spotted for a week and that was it...for a few months.  I'd have AF...wait 3 months...AF again...waited 6m AF again then I went a whole year before my next AF.  Doc's explaination was that teenage girls normally aren't regular.  Huh...whatever.  I went on the pill when I got serious about my DH (I was 17...we'd been kinda seeing eachother for about a year) and all was good.  We got married in 10/96 and in 7/96 I stopped taking the pill as we wanted kids and since I wasn't regular we figured it would take a little...had no idea it would take me 9 years to get pregnant.  Anyway after I stopped the pill my body went haywire and I started massive weight gain & facial hair.  I started seeing a doc about it in the summer of 97 and she didn't have a clue in her head to save her own life let alone anyone elses.  She said that my weight gain caused my absence of periods and facial hair.  I started popping diet pills and over a year only lost 30lb.  Oh and through all this AF never returned and when I brought it up with her she'd tell me 'oh we'll worry about that after you get under 200lb'...well I never did.  One day I went in for my weigh in and was told that she was no longer a part of the medical group and that they could not see me but were going to establish me with another doc.

I chose to switch medical groups and elected my old OB/GYN (he just left the group last month) as my PCP as he also did that.  My 1st visit with him he listened to my history and diagnosed me immediately.  WHAT A RELIEF!!  It wasn't all in my head!  Then of course we began the clomid/provera cycle to get prego...many years later aftger my bypass I was finally able to be PCOS symptom free & a mom of 2!

WE had a badass room at the Four Seasons in downtown Houston. WE had 3rd row tickets to one of the big wrestling paperviews.. It was a huge night for hubby... I had spent the previous 2 months bleeding on and off..

I was standing on the white bathroom  rug.. My husband goes, "OMG What happened"
And My thighs were covered in blood.. so was the white carpet.. it looked like a massacre.

I went to one doc... she told me I was just overweight and to lose weight.
I went to another... I found soulcysters at the same time.. and asked this doc to put me on metformin and do some tests... Nada... She told me to just eat sensibly and lose weight...

I found Dr. Allon.. who specializes in PCOS... and we found out that I have the testosterone levels of a dude.. lol and I worked for 2 years with a personal trainer and doing PCOS detox diets.. spending close to 30,000.. and never lost more than 30lbs...
and gained all that back.

Surgery has saved my life.

PCOS is a badge for me~

I was happy when I found out I did have it, in 2002.
All of my life I went from doctor to doctor not knowing what was wrong with me
. I now take it with me everywhere I go and teach other woman about the disease. I often teach practioners and spouses about it too!

It is not easy having it, but I use it to strengthen myself to help others.

PEACE

Topic: Introducing myself!
Hi OH Friends!

Let me first say: Thank you for setting this group on OH!

My hopes are high that this group will be just as supportive as the rest of the site. I have been a member of soulcysters for over 5 years and it no longer offer the comfort and support it once did!

I am 35 and started my period when I was 10
I have been chunky all of my life. I knew I was different when I was in 3rd graded and weighed 113lbs.

Growing up the doctors would just tell me to stop eating so much and get active. I could never get help for irregular periods, depression or weight until I was out of college and insisted that I be tested for PCOS...I was right.

In 2002 I began a low carb plan with metformin and was told I would never conceive. The doctor said I needed to loose atleast 70 lbs. to start fertility testing and gave me a paper chart to temp...I now have a 4 year old son from no help of anyone with a medical degree.

Currently I have a wonderful group of practicioners and looking forward to RNY for my birthday in April. I do plan on conceiving another child and beginning a support group in my area with my doctor's help.

Happy Day Ladies!
