Exactly! And even when I would have one, I would NEVER know when it was coming because it would be 8 or 10 months in between each one. I calculated I should start on the 13th this month if I had a normal cycle and holy cow.... I DID! It was wild!! lol.
Good luck with your surgery Teresa! I know you're excited (and busy). We'll be scootin' over on that old loser's bench for you shortly! Can't wait to see you there

I had surgery 3 months ago and I'm amazed at the changes!!! I could not lose weight for the life of me before surgery. Daily I was on 3 insulin shots and 1 pill for my diabetes, Metformin for the insulin resistance, a pill for high blood pressure and for high cholesterol. I'm off EVERYTHING now. I've lost 60 lbs and I've had a period every month exactly when it was supposed to come (my friends just cannot understand how excited I am by that! lol)
I'm hoping maybe maybe maybe that means a baby in my future! (tried unsuccessfully for nearly 18 years before surgery)
The main reason I had the surgery was to hopefully resolve the PCOS - and I think it's done a fantastic job so far. Would do it again in a heartbeat!!!
Good luck with whatever you choose!!

When did you decided to have wls, and why?!
I decided to have wls about a year ago, when i couldn't conceive it just tore my heart into pieces
and i remember when the doctor told me...you should get wls, i was 100% against it...nope wls is not for me...but then after i thought about it, learned about it...believed it was the right decision for me. As my big day approaches I'm happy about my decision and i can't wait to join everyone on the loser bench!

Topic: RE: mega acne
My first question WHY won't he refer you for RNY? You are over 40 BMI Which should be one of the big hurdles. I know things are different with the Canadian medical coverage, but I thought (perhaps mistakenly) that they were fairly similar in what they need for WLS coverages? Is it a personal thing for your Dr (i.e. does he just not believe anyone should have WLS and therefore does not refer anyone for it? or do you have extenuating medical cir****tances (you don't have to tell me, just keep that in mind).
I did have bad acne in high school and for a couple of years after, but it did finally clear up and I very seldom suffer from any re-occurances now (usually only during a period or a pregnancy, when my hormone's are even wackier than they normally are).
Lack of sex drive can be several things. I do on occasion suffer from that (poor hubby deals with it well). Although it is much better now (I don't know if I should say it is do to my surgery or if it is the mega doses of vitamins I do now that I didn't do before.)
I hope you get some answers soon! Best wishes.
Katie

Topic: RE: weightloss surgery with PCOS
Hi,
I am about 10 months post-op from having a DS. I had been on Metformin, Actos, birth control pills, Byetta injections prescribed by my gyno and endo in order to try and regulate my cycle. Nothing ever worked and usually gained more weight. I could lose weight if I worked super hard but my cycle never regulated. I averaged about 2 periods a year. My gyno told me that I probably would never be able to get pregnant since I couldn't get a regular period.
I have had a regular period every month since surgery. I haven't been that way since probably high school (I'm 37 now). I am not on any PCOS related medication and I am nearly off my blood pressure meds. My skin is no longer oily and my acne has greatly improved. I still have to pluck some chin hair (pretty!) but not with the frequency of the past. My dark skin patches have faded.
Part of the reason that I chose my surgery type (the DS) because it changes you at a metabolic level and has the greatest likelihood of keeping the weight off. Some may feel like it is too drastic of a choice but I couldn't be more thrilled. I feel good and I feel normal. I'm so hopeful for the future.
Good luck to everyone in their journey!

I haven't had surgery yet but I did lose almost 100lbs when I was ttc. I did get pregnant (with IVF) but had an ectopic the first time and a mc the second time. After that I did not get pregnant again and I was so angry that my body let me down that I kind of gained weight not so much on purpose but I suppose out of retaliation for how hard I had worked and how little it helped with the pregnancies.
I did not notice tremendous improvements in my PCO at that time but now that I am a little older I am seeing changes (periods getting closer together, etc) so I have high hopes that I can get off my met after surgery... we'll see...
