Wow there's a lot of us Jennifers here!  So glad you started this group!  I have had PCOS since puberty, but I never found a doctor who would ever help me (other than tell me I needed to lose weight****il the end of 2004 and told me I had PCOS.

At that time, I was also diagnosed with Endometrial Hyperplasia which was the last stage before cancer.  I had a D & C in March 2005 and had to wait 2 weeks to find out if I had cancer which would require a hysterectomy.  By the Grace of God, I did not have cancer!  I had to take heavy doses of Progesterone to reverse the Hyperplasia.  It worked, but caused me to gain 40 lbs. and caused my Thyroid to not work as well as it should.   This was a hard time for me because my Mom was fighting Ovarian Cancer.  She fought it for 6 years but we lost her in 2006 on the same day as my 14th wedding anniversary.

The stress of Mom's illness and eventually losing her was too much and I put myself on the back burner.  Unfortunately, I went back to the gyn/onc 2 months after Mom passed only to find the hyperplasia had returned.  I had to do another round of the Progesterone again in the summer of 2008.  It worked again but added another 30 lbs and my my thyroid medicine had to be increased more.  That was when it was suggested I have WLS and it's been a 16 months since.

I am so glad that I had surgery!  I am bad about putting everyone's needs above my own, but having surgery has taught me that I have to take care of myself and I have to do as instructed, but the pay off is so great!

Topic: RE: weightloss surgery with PCOS
I had my surgery almost 11 months ago and I've lost 120 lbs.  It was recommended by my RE to have the surgery--actually, she said she wouldn't do anything until I did have the surgery.  I am still struggling with my eating habits and have been anemic and vitamin deficient as a result.  But I am still working on it!

I had my hormones tested in Sept and for the first time, they were in the normal ranges.  I am not 100% sure if this is because my WLS or because I've been taking BCPs continuously since last January.  I did take Met for 2 years which had absolutely no effect other than making my tummy unhappy.

I go back to my WLS Dr. next month and have to be released before I can start fertility treatments again, which considering my anemia and vitamin issues, probably won't be released as soon as I hope.  The RE said we could probably plan on starting in May or June, so I'm hoping on having a "hot" summer of baby making!  LOL!

I know I am the one who wrote it, but I think it is so important, and I can tell you a lot of research went into it.

Topic: My Crusade Begins Today ~Repost~

I've posted this on the main board, but I think it is especially important information for my cysters because we metabolize carbohydrates differently, which actually make us crave them even more.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I begin my anti-maltodextrin (spenda/equal) crusade today!

A little background:

I am a Sugar Addict.  After my RNY I became completely sugar intolerant, so to "Feed the Need" I switched to the fake stuff. I was at the point that I was adding it to everthing I ate. I do mean everything. At work I would go out and get a salad and add equal to the salad dressing, A Lot!  Then 2 1/2 hours later I would be a Shakey Mess (low blood sugar) and have to eat again. It crossed my mind that it might be the sweetners but I wasn't willing to look at it.

So this summer I had a Total hip replacement and have been off work.  This gave me time to start learning about these substitutes and what they were doing to me.  So here is what I've found: Maltodextrin turns into a Carbohydrate in my body, and when eaten in larger amounts drives up my blood sugar, and because I am a hypoglycemic drops it, dangerously low at times.  As a carbohydrate it also makes me want to eat more.  Since cutting out adding these substitues to my meals I have dropped about 18 lbs (weight that I had started to put on) and Feel much better.

If you're having trouble with your blood sugar, or beginning to regain weight, or feeling hungry a lot, you may want to take a look at how much artificial sweetners you taking in. I am amazed at what has maltodextrin in it.  I know I am sounding a bit 'Preachy'. But I feel SO strongly about this, and I want to see all my oh family succeed, and be healthy.

Be Well My Friends

Good Job! I had my rny in april 07, I went down to about 140 then last year started to creep back up.  I had to go out on disability last year (not related to wls or pcos) and honestly I was terrified that being at home I was going to start really packin it on, but actually the opposite happened and I lost 20 lbs and am back down to between 135-138. You can continue to lose if that is what you and your body need.

My most heavy weight was -379. (years before surgery)
Weight I restarted the process for gastric bypass at - 338
Surgery weight - app 332. They didn't weigh me that day and I even asked..lol
Current weight - 266.
I am tickled with my current weight loss.  I still want to get down to app 150.  I am 5'8".  I already feel like a new woman.  I am up to twenty five min. on the elliptical with a 45 min aerobic class and a 30 min buns and abs class.  I could have only dreamed of this before.  I can also RUN!!! now.  I ran app 1/3 of a mile making a whole mile in 18 min the other day.  Best of all- NO MORE INSULIN OR ANY DIABETES MEDS SINCE SURGERY!!  My fastings are down to 114-118..and with the exercise it should get even better.
  THANK YOU RNY!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. My In-laws are visiting so things have been busy for me this week.

Your heavy-est: 234
how much you weighed at surgery: 221 (ish) They actually didn't check.
how much you weigh now: 155
goal weight: 135
Are you happy with where your weight is now? I am actually pretty happy where I am currently. I do want to see how close to goal I can get (or if I get past goal It'll be a "how low can I go" thing. I'm only 5 months out so I have 7 more months of weight loss before My one year anniversary. It'll be fun seeing what I weight at one year out.
