Why is the doctor saying that the surgery is risky?  Do you have special health related concerns?  I am currently in a similar situation minus the lap band.  My husband and I have been married for almost a year and are thinking about a baby.  I have seen a reproductive endocrinologist and he wanted to put me on more meds (I already take70+ pills a week).  My husband did the research and so I'm in the process of insurance approval for the DS.  I have read testimonials from multiple people w/pcos who have had the ds.  they had babies right after the year waiting period.  It's also supposed to be better results and less nasty side effects (like dumping).  Doctor's that do the DS are hard to find and not all insurances cover it but I'm really impressed by the data so I drive 4 hours to my surgeon.  I definitely suggest research.  Good luck and if I can help in any way let me know.  PCOS sucks.  I have struggled with it for four years (even though I've had it much longer).

wow thats great. I am trying to make some of those changes now before i actually have surgery. I dont eat much bread but i am having a hard time with the pasta so i am using whole grain pasta instead;. Money is tight and pasta is filling for my family so we make it more than i would like. i am trying to get away from it all together. I am only eating sugar that is in fuits and stuff no other sugar i use splenda. I have heard people after surgery have problems eating splenda i dont know if that true but its good for now.

Be happy with who you are.

I'm just 9 month's out and am very happy with my RNY. I originally had figured I'd be happy at 150 pounds (84 pounds down from my highest weight) then as I started losing weight I decided 135 would be my "ultimate" goal. That was 99 pounds down from my highest weight. I figured I might get there as a long shot. I am now 5 pounds below my "ultimate goal"!! I didn't lose tons of weight at a time, but I did lose very steadily. Not very many stalls (I think I had two stalls that lasted about 2 weeks each). I may only lose a 1/2 pound some weeks, and three pounds other weeks, but it all adds up. Good luck with what ever you decide!!

Thank you for your post it is encouraging and I may have found my way over the speed bump I had mentioned earlier. I am still hoping to have the surgery and it could be around october if I do get to. I am so excited but nervous that I might be one of those people who dont lose very well and end up still heavy. I am going to work my butt off to not be one of those peole. I am already working my butt off on this supervised diet and I am hardly losing anything. I am glad to be able to come on here and get words of encouragment because thats what I need. thank you all

Be happy with who you are.

Hi Huggzie. I am not sure where you heard that but I would disagree.  My pcos symptoms have been pretty bad for quite a few years now. When I started I weighed 292. I was able to get down to 260 by my surgery (04/18/07). I Followed my program TO THE LETTER, with food amounts, types, water, protein, etc. Do to physical problems I was not able to exercise but I was able to get to a Normal bmi (24.2) by 14 months approx 150 lbs. I just had my 3 year surgiversary and I am anywhere between 127 & 130 lbs (20.4 - 20.9 bmi)  Don't let ANYONE tell you what you can't do.

Hi ladies!
My surgery is today...in fact it's in about 5 hours. I'm excited, terrified and a little uncomfortable. I'm having heartburn this morning. I think it's due to being nervous. Wish me luck.
