How have the RNY's done so far after surgery?
I was wondering how those who had RNY done after surgery.
How far are you out now?
How much have you lost so far?
What kind of foods can you eat or tolerate right now?
How are your PCOS symptoms?
What symptoms do you still have?
What PCOS symptoms did you have before surgery?
I was wondering what foods everyone can tolerate because I am not very far out and I was wondering what it will be like when I get a little further out. I know everyone is different.
Welcome
Awsome Questions!!
I had RNY Jan 29th of 2010..So about a month shy of a year....
Start Weight
287;bs
Today's Weight
168.5
Total of 118.5lbs Gone
I can pretty much handle anything..I do however stay away from, pasta, rice, and bread, just my choice and rice hurts my pouch ALOT, i don't do candy, cookies, chocolate ect......
My PCOS still sucks!! :(
I had RNY to get healthy, and also to get pregnant..
I still don't have any periods :(
My facial hair is actually worse
So i have not seen any improvement since I've had surgery
Besides I'm healthier, TONS of energy, and I love life!!
Like Teresa, I had rny in hopes of getting pregnant. I had rny 04-18-07 I weighed 260 at surgery (not my highest though) I currently weigh about 130. I had horrible cystic acne which is gone now. A lot of the extra hair is gone, except for on my face. My periods did start to regulate, then after having a hip replacement I dropped down to about 120 which was to small for me and haven't had a period. The foods I can tolerate change now and then. I can eat more sugar than before, but I cannot eat nuts or peanut butter, I dump pretty badly. I am a reactive hypoglycemic now, which I think has to do with my insulin resistance. I have it pretty controlled by watching my carb, and sugar (including the fake crap) intake. I don't know how old you are, but I am ***GULP*** middleaged. By the Gods I wish I could have had rny 20 years ago!! I might be a mommy now :'-(
I have NO REGRETS about having RNY. My life has Only Gotten Better Since.

How much have you lost so far? I bounce between 109-111lbs lost. I started at 254 and now bounce between 143-145.
What kind of foods can you eat or tolerate right now? I can tolerate everything in moderation. Some of the foods that I'm limited to just a few bites/sips are milk and ice cream. Sugars I have to keep to <10g/serving or I'll dump. Milk I've found that I can tolerate about 2oz at a time and ice cream...2-3 licks or about 1 good spoonful. Anything else goes fine.
How are your PCOS symptoms? gone! Well, except for the facial hair which will sadly be there unless I go for permanent hair removal (which is not in my budget). Other than that I went from no periods to periods, no ovulation to ovulation (and 2 kids without meds and pg the 1st month trying), no more acne, no more acanthosis nigricans (dark areas of skin), no more skin tags, no more IR or DM. If it wasn't for my facial hair you would never know that I have PCOS.
What symptoms do you still have? Just the facial hair now.
What PCOS symptoms did you have before surgery? Pretty much everything. No periods (even with Provera), no ovulation (even with injectable fertility meds), AN (acanthosis nigricans...the dark areas of skin behind the neck, elbows...areas like that), skin tags, acne, facial hair, IR and DM (diabetes type 2)...and I think that's it...
I'm very happy with my RNY. I'm 6.5 years out and still pretty much at goal. My goal weight is 140 and I'm around 143-145 and that's after 2 kids too!! I used to wear a size 24/26 and now am a 6/8. Let me know if you have more questions!
