Pcos Support
I'm curious
I had the VSG and it immediately worked to drop the lbs. I have two major symptoms - hair growth everywhere and no periods. My hair growth hasn't improved at all with the surgery. But my cycles because normal for the first time in my life as I approached a 100lb loss - around month 6. At 9 months post-op I found out I'm pregnant. So my PCOS is definitely improved.
I started at 324lbs and a size 26. After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011. My second daughter was born in September 2013. I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs. I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter. The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls. My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.
I had RNY symptoms went away was on Ovcon 50 birth control pills would bleed through so the doctor though maybe to much hormones so he put me on a way lower one and I'm still bleeding through two weeks before period.Right now we don't know if its because the weight lose or because its back or never went away.I go to the doctors at the end of the month to see if I get an ok to have another baby Im 16 months out now.I guess I will find out soon.I give it a year if no baby Im getting fixed Im tired of dealing with all these messy period stuff>
I will be 6 years post op RNY next month. For me it has worked well and I'm pleased with my results. I am still 100lb lost and wearing a size 8-10, down from a size 24-26. My diabetes, IR, infertility, sleep apnea...all gone. I still have hypertension (high blood pressure) but my doc thinks it's likely genetic as it's quite prominant in my family. It's very easily controlled on 1 pill a day now as opposed to 3 pills a day I was taking before and was still mildly hypertensive.
I lost 100lb in 6 months and then lost the remaining 14lb by 1 year post op. As soon as I hit 199lbs I went on the OrthoEvra patch for birth control so I don't know exactly when 'everything righted itself". At 1 year post op I stopped using the patch and found that I'd became 'normal'. Pre op I never had periods...never ovulated...even with medications (oral and shots), and now not only were my periods normal but I was ovulating too! I tracked my periods for 3 months while I finished a medication that I could not get pregnant on and our 1st month trying to get pregnant...we did! I got pregnant at 16 months post op. I had a healthy pregnancy & baby who will be 4 in less than 2 weeks. After her birth I opted for the Mirena IUD because I just didn't really care for the side effects of the patch. When my DD was 1.5y I had my IUD pulled and was pregnant the next month. Again...healthy pregnancy & baby...she's 19 months old. After her I had another Mirena IUD inserted (looooove it! No muss...no fuss...good for 5 years). Because of how the Mirena works I no longer have periods.
My WLS not only changed my life, but it allowed me to be a mom after trying for soooo long. We went through 8 years of failed fertility treatments, then the 1+ year waiting...I finally got my 1st + pregnancy test 9 years 4 months after we first started trying to have children.
My pregnancies were unremarkable (aside from some spotting with the 2nd) and I delivered healthy girls at 39w1d & 39w0d weighing 6lb 3oz & 7lb 12oz. I was also able to breastfeed both.
GL and let me know if you have more questions...
