Hello Everyone ~

I wanted to take this chance to introduce myself as I just joined the group this afternoon.  My name is Juli, I reside in Sacramento, CA. I had my RNY surgery in June 2009 - down almost 130lbs. I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 30 and let me tell you I had to fight fight fight almost to the death for the doctors to listen to me. I heard all the excuses that I was fat and that was why I didn't have regular periods etc. etc. etc. I'm sure a lot of you have heard some of this BS too! I went to doctor after doctor after specialist after specialist showing all the classic signs and symptoms of PCOS but nobody wanted to listen or pay attention. Finally my mom sent me an article she read about PCOS and said - wow if this doesn't sound like you I don't know what does! I took the acticle with me the next time I meet with my doctor and showed it to him he wanted to argue with me but gave me a referal for a specialist and  I finally felt like someone listened and got it. We started treatment for the symptoms that can be treated and well the rest is history. At the time I started thinking about RNY surgery I have to be honest I didn't even factor in the PCOS - I just knew I had to find a way to get the weight off.

Anyway - thats a little bit about me. Glad to be here on the boards with all of you!

Hi Juli! I just joined this group myself. I too had to fight like crazy to get a doctor to believe me, especially me at 14 years old. They thought I was making things up to get attention. They finally did an ultrasound on my ovaries and found all the signs of PCOS. The only thing they did for me was BC because I was so young. Good luck on your journey, and 130 WOw good job on that weight loss, im looking forward to a new more energized me!

I believe alot of doctors are just not educated enough about pcos hopefully someday all doctors will know what pcos is and woman will not go undiagnosed or just be swept under the rug!
