Hi...I'm new and have a question
My question for those of you who have had surgery is did everyone get a period on their own after surgery? I had a period (magically on my own) the day before surgery and none since. I had a follow up with the PA who said I can restart my birth control on 1/21. When I told her I can't because I haven't had a period yet, she said "oh that's weird, most people start getting it even if they hadn't on their own before". Great. Thanks. That makes me feel really special. Anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks in advance
Chele
I don't know about most people and I can't say that I've heard that to be true but I did start having a regular period after my DS surgery 10 months ago. I've had a period every month since then and I'm not sure if that has ever happened in my life before except for maybe when I was on birth control. It never happened with Metformin, Actos, Byetta, or any other meds that I was taking to trying and regulate me. I've been lower weights than this but never had a cycle that I could rely on until now.
I hope your situation gets better. Good luck!

Hi Sweetie, I was diagnoses in 2001 with PCOS. I was put on Glugophage (name brand) In six months I lost 90 lbs and my periods got regular, then the weight loss just stopped cold, and the periods got more irregular. Then in 2005 I went on merida(the weighloss drug) I only lost twenty pounds but my periods went like clockwork. Well of course they didn't let me stay on meridia. So 2007 I had my RNY. My periods came perodically but more regular after that. Then about 2 yrs out my periods just kinda stopped, this terrified my because like you I desperatly want to get pregnant, and for having a baby I am getting VERY old, I will be 42 this year. Then I stopped all together they tried provera twice which had always worked in the pass the first time and it didn't work. So my doc conferred with another doc and they put me on Yaz for 3 months, it started and has been right on time for the last 6 months.
Looking at your picture you look young. IF you have the time I would suggest that you wait to get pregnant so your body can accomadate your weightloss and become 'normal'. But like anything I AM NOT A DOCTOR so I would talk to your GYN about when is the best time. Things are still very new for your body, I would bet that by a year out your body will become normalized on it's own. Maybe 'IT' will happen on it's own.

I started at 324lbs and a size 26. After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011. My second daughter was born in September 2013. I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs. I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter. The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls. My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.
Good luck to you all.
You're going to love how your PCOS symptoms go away as the weight goes away!! I had 'classic' PCOS with all the symptoms except for the male pattern baldness...all that's left now is the facial hair which unfortunately won't go away without laser treatments. The best part was that after 8 years of failed fertility treatments (I was Clomid resistant and responded poorly to Repronex...an injectable) I was able to get pregnant the 1st month not using any protection at 16m post op without medical intervention! Yeah baby! I have an IUD so I don't have AF (my period) but when I wasn't on birth control I was regular...a total first for me!
Good luck!!
