Pcos Support
New here
Hi my name is Jennifer, 37 yrs old and live in chesapeake, VA.. I'm happily married to my wonderful husband Darrel, we have 3 beautiful children together. We have a son he's 15, 2 daughters 10 and 5. Well here my story: I really didn't have much problems with my period because I was on the pill all the way up till my son born with being on the pill I just had regualar period.. After about a yr after having my son didn't see a period so went saw my dr and she refer me to OBYN, he was a specialist and that when i was diagonose with pcos. He really didn't do much just to explain what i had and it be better if i loss the weight at the time I weight (210). I was never a skinny girl when i was growing up. Well years went on and in 1998 we wanted to try for another one, saw the specialist again and started me on shots, pills. Well after a year of that, time and money we decided to give it all up and hand it to God. Well we where moving at the time, and I think with both of us being busy and our mind wasn't forcusing on conceiving it helped I got pregnant on our own and conceive a healthy baby girl in 2000. Well we move to VA in 2002, my dr wanted me to see a specialist on pcos up richmond to get my period regular. I saw a spacialst up in richmond and was put on metiformin, I started to see my period come and started to see weight coming off. Well I conceive in 2004. Well that was enough for us. I was still taking metiformin till July of 2009, I started having the dumps, bad (sorry). It was so bad, i couldn't eat or drink anything, My husband up making a appointment with my primary care, she ran some blood work but she told me it sounded like I became totally resistance and told me to stop metiformin. At that time I weight 248 and the drs office. Well I saw my primary care again in Dec, was not happy with my weight, since I stopped metiformin weight just been climbing on. and I didn't feel good, I was tired all the time, I felt like someone was pullng my arms down, felt like weights on my shoulders. I mean I was sleeping all the time.. I wasn't depress really honeslty..I am on depresstion medications. So ran more blood work, my dr was thinking maybe it my thryroid. Well i was kinda hoping explaining the weight gaining.
I'm really not a big eater, I honestly don't eat much or eat alot of sweets. So waited for blood work, got the phone call and everything normal, not diabetic, NOTHING.. I was like this is so strange what the heck and my question is why I'm I feeling this way. It so frustrating.
Well I been talking to people and now my mind on the WLS surgery. My question is well if i have the surgery is it going to help with pcos and avoid becoming diabetic.
Sorry this is so long.
looking forward to meeting some of you that are in the same situation as me.

Welcome to the boards and of course congrats on your kids! What surgery are you looking into having? If you have the RNY your chances of avoiding diabetes are dang near 100%. I've met a LOT of post ops in my last 6 years here (well almost) on OH and have yet met a person who became diabetic AFTER surgery.
Surgery should also help with your pcos. It greatly helped my case. The only sign of pcos that I have right now is the facial hair which unfortunately you can't get rid of without laser treatments. Before surgery I had nearly ALL of the classic pcos symptoms. Good luck!
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome Jennifer!!
I didn't eat much, or have alot of sweets...but i did find out that i'f i don't eat enough that i'm starving my body, and my body will hold onto the fat...
Do you have any of the other symptoms of pcos?
-Facial hair/long arm hair/ strange body hair
-rapid weight gain
-skin tags
I have not had my wls yet, but i have been told by many of your PCOS cysters that wls does help big time with PCOS, also my surgeon also told me that!!!
Please keep us updated on your test and everything
Hugs, best of luck to you
