Hi

My mum knew that some was abit different with me when I got my first A/F at 9yrs old. I freaked didn't know what the hell was going on. It couldn't be A/F because that happens when your older that's what was going through my head. It would come on and off every few months and get heavier each time. My mum took me to the Dr's and said "she's just an early bloomer. She'll be fine". So on my way I went for yrs putting up with the pain and bleeding everywhere when I had A/F. Not know when it was going to come so being very careful to make sure there was toilets and pads around me at all times.

Fast forward 10yrs and I'm in at my GP with my son . He looked at me and saw my facial hair that I got will being pregnant and the weight I put on that I just couldn't get off for the life of me. He sent me to get some blood tests and it came back the I had 2 and a half times more testosterone than that a female should have at the highest amount, hense my unusual strength.

I left with no information and had to research my self through books ( yes I didn't have acess to any computers back then) at a family planning clinic. I found some info burst into tears with what I read. One of the Dr's there had been watching me and called me in asked me some questions and we had a 90min chat about PCOS.

I have been very very lucky and had 3 healthy children and a   " Hope Ameilah~Rose" . I also haven't got  IR which has really surprised me. I do have nearly everything else.

My question is was wondering if anyone still stayed on metformin after there WLS ?.

I'm not on it at the moment. I have only been on it to help me fall pregnant.

Best wishes to all

Hello Chrystale

I was still on Glucophage when after my wls (I say Glucophage because my PCOS make me medication sensitive. Metformin DOES NOT work for me) As I started to really lose the weight my blood sugar started to really be effected by it and it was dropping to low. Now that I have reached a normal BMI many of my symptoms have gone, my testosterone was very high as well. A doctor (standing in for my regular gyn) recently told me my PCOS had been cured. Now I don't believe that really, I consider it more in remission.  Did you want to go back on it?  You may find your symptoms go as well.

I was on Met before surgery, but haven't had it since I woke up in the hospital. I was using it for IR/Diabetes control and my numbers went down to normal levels at my first lab after surgery.

I was on it for 4 years for IR and then a doubled dose for a year before surgery due to becoming diabetic.  I have not taken it since the day before surgery 5.5 years ago.  My fasting glucose & insulin are normal now so both my IR & diabetes have been reversed.

Unfortunately for me Metformin did not help me ovulate.

Good luck.
