My name is Teresa I'm 24 years old and I've had PCOS gosh since i can remember ..i be live i was diagnosed around the age of 13, then i was put on BC pills...never thought much more about it... Until the dreaded day when i started to get extra hair..YUCK... the doctor put me on Speralactone (sp) for facial hair...ya that really didn't do to much... Then i started to gain weight in my belly great....what else could go wrong.i had hair where i should and now I'm get heavy...ugh... oh well i had my friends who loved me and the support of my family...so i graduated in 2003 and married my high school sweetheart in 2004...This is when PCOS has kicked my butt... We have been TTC"Trying to Conceive" since we got married... Well all you PCOS Lady's, know how crazy our periods could get.. i could go a whole year and no period..well that makes it hard to get pregnant.. so we went to the fertility specialist and did all that testing him and i.. And we did 4 rounds of clomid and still we did not get pregnant.. So here i am... Waiting to get my RNY on Jan 29th.. so i can start my new and healthier life...and hopefully down the long run be able to have a baby!!

 Hi, Teresa, I'm Mary Ann.  I'm 31 years old and have two sons 7 & 4 (there is hope!).   I got married in 1997, by 1999, we wanted to start a family.   I knew something was wrong, because I wouldn't have periods for months at a time.   Each month, I would get my hopes up that I was pregnant, for just another let down. 
  I started seeing a fertility specialist and was making progress, or so I thought.. I opened the news paper one day and there was huge article in there about how he had just up and left his patients with no warning.  I was crushed.  I didn't have my medical records, I didn't know where to go next. 
 I decided I would go to my gyno. and see where he would send me.    Luckily for me, his "hobby" his women with PCOS, and getting them pregnant. 
  I have done months of provera, rounds and rounds of clomid and glucophage.   When I lost weight combined with the other three things I was doing, I got pregnant.  It too****il 2002, but that was fine by me.   

After I had my son, my periods have been on time, every month.    I had two miscarriages between 2002 and 2004, and then in 2004, I got pregnant with my youngest son- no meds needed!     We decided that two was enough for us, going through miscarriages is hard and we felt that we were blessed with our two healthy boys. 

Besides the facial hair and big ol' belly( and I'm losing it!!), these days PCOS doesn't rule my life.   I just had the RNY on Dec. 7th, and I've promised myself that when I lose my weight, I'll start laser hair treatments.

Hi Teresa.  My name is Kristy and I too have PCOS.  I was officially diagnosed in 1999 although I spent many years with symptoms.  I too married my HS sweethart and this year we'll celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary (& 18 years together).  I was overweight in school...averaging a weight of 160 and wearing a size 14.  I stopped taking the pill a few months before we got married and all hell broke loose.  I gained like 80lb in a year, started growing facial hair & stopped having periods all together.  I also didn't get pregnant despite not using any birthcontrol.  I finally got insurance a year later and she was clueless.  She started me popping diet pills and after a year I'd lost 30lb and my periods STILL didn't return..and I still wasn't pregnant.  Then I met my old OB and my 1st visit with him he dx'ed me with PCOS.  Immediately he started me on the Provera/Clomid dance.  After more cycles than I could count I was up to 200mg with no response.  I was then sent to a specialist and did a round of injectables and still didn't get pregnant.  During this time my health deteriorated.  I was IR that turned diabetic & I'd also developed hypertension & sleep apnea...oh...and let's not forget that I STILL wasn't having any periods.  I spent 8 years prior to my RNY ttc with no luck.

I had my RNY in 8/04 and was at goal with 114lb lost by 1 year post op.  During this year my diabetes, hypertension & sleep apnea went away.  My periods also were regular due to using the birth control patch.  At 16m post op we decided to not use protection and I immediately got pregnant with DD1.  I delivered her just days before my 2 year surgiversary & exactly 10 years after we started ttcing.  I had an IUD put in when she was 4m old.  Then when she was 1.5y I had my IUD pulled and the next month was pregnant again!  I delivered my 2nd DD just last year.  My kids wouldn't be here had it not been for my RNY.

Anyway although I'm not back at goal, I'm still 90lb down at 5.5 years post op.  I'm very open about my surgery and my way to say thanks to my surgeon is that I speak as a post op at his monthly informational seminars.  I also run a WLS support group online at www.soulcysters.net called WLS Divas. 

Right now I've got my hands full so I don't know if I'll get to post here much, I start nursing school next week.  Wish me luck!

Sounds like we have been pretty much been threw the same TTC road!
Can't wait for my RNY, i will be getting on BC this Friday (15th) I'm getting the Implanod, and that can come out whenever were ready to try to get get pregnant!!!

Hi, I'm Penny.  I am 35 years old.  I have been diagnosed with PCOS since 1994.  I started my cycles when I was 9 and had problems with them until 2004.  I did the Glucophage and Spirinolactone for tx of symptoms.  My first endocrinologist was HORRIBLE.  He brought in a med student without asking and proceeded to do an exam and talk with the student about everything he was seeing like I wasn't there.  He even made the statement she is most likely a "grazer"  I bet she eats alot of spaghetti and munches like a cow!!!!  WTF!!!  Needless to say I didn't stay with his practice.  That first visit though I found out that I was diabetic and it has been down hill since.  Fighting weight gain, diabetes, bad periods, and my first marriage was horrible.  I gained nearly 70 lbs in one year.  I was told so many times by different Dr's..(4) that I would never have kids.  Well, met my new hubby in 2001.  We got married in 2002.  Fought my(our) weight together.  Needless to say I kinda kept losing THAT battle..lol.  In 2004 I found out I was pregnant.  We lost that baby at 12 weeks.  It was one of the most horrible experiences.  We used a military hospital.  He was deployed and while I was actively having my miscarriage they had me sitting in the waiting room with all the pregnant happy moms.  Finally an EMT friend came up and I told her uh oh..I think I just bleed on the chair.  (I was wearing two pads and incontinent briefs). She took over and demanded I be seen immediately and placed in a seperate room at least away from all the pregger moms.  ANYWAY, it was amazing I got pregnant in the first place.  That baby will always hold a special place in my heart.  Then, my periods straightened out again.  And wow, August 2005 I found out I was preggers again.  I now have a three(soon to be 4) year old daughter.  After her birth my periods were super great again.  Then, I had everything done in summer of 2007 except my last pre op appt for gastric bypass and I found out I was pregnant again!!  I cried and cried.  (((((just a little side note, I cut a tree down, got pregnant the first time, cut firewood for a fire pit, and was pregnant the second time....I'm telling the ultrasound tech this and I told her I competed in the jill and jill lumberjack competition and did two events, the cross cut saw and ax throwing, she laughed and said well..that figures..cause you are having TWO babies)))).  I was very high risk becuase I had heart failure after my daughter was born.  Needless to say, things went great.  I now have soon to be two year old twin boys.  AND my tubes are tied...lol.  I have had all the other symptoms with PCOS like facial hair and stuff.  RNY was a true blessing.  I hope that this really helps the PCOS symptoms.  .............so, for all of those out there who want babies, it is possible.

I can't belive your 1st doc would say that right in front of you, I'm so glade you found another doctor!!!!

Hello, I am Jenny.  I have had PCOS since I was 13.  I would go months without a period, and then as I got older it would be a year or more without one.  My OBGYN had put me on birth control when I turned 18, and the hormones in the BC made me want to cry all the time.  I  hated taking them.  Then when I was 20, I had some cysts on my ovaries rupture.  I was in tremendous pain for a week, went to the ER, and they could not find the cause of my pain.  I was in college then, and was 3,000 miles from home.  I ended up being in so much pain that I passed out, and a few days later I flew home to get some help from my regular doctor.  By the time they found the cysts, they had already ruptured, and were just "leaking" out.  They were big ones that should have surgically been removed. Talk about painful!  Anyways, to make a long story short, I have never in my life had a normal cycle, and when I got married in 2004, my husband and I wanted to start a family.  We have been trying since then, with no luck.  I had RNY 10 months ago, and lost a lot of weight, but that also messed up my periods, and I had a period for 7 months!!! I was given every drug possible to try to stop them, but nothing worked, except the BC.  The one thing I did not want to be on because we want to have a baby.  So now my doctor has given the "all clear" for me to get pregnant, and I won't stop bleeding.  It is frustrating, but I know that God is in control, and I am praying for Him to work a miracle for me and my husband.  Before I had WLS, I went through fertility treatments with no luck, but I have been told that WLS really makes you more fertile, so I am praying!  I look forward to chatting with you all, and hearing your stories too!

Never had a Cyst rupured...ouch...sounds really pain full!!

 Hi everyone, my name is Jen.  I'm 25 and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18.  I never had regular periods and knew something was definitely wrong when I gained 90 lbs during my freshman year of college.  My eating habits didn't change much - I was still living with my parents - and I was walking around campus a lot.  I went to my gyn who immediately thought to test me for it.  Bloodwork and ultrasound later I was diagnosed.  I'm a pretty classic case - very few periods per year, hirsutism, insulin resistance, etc.  One of my primary reasons for getting the sleeve surgery was to lose weight and hopefully put some of these symptoms into remission.  66 lbs later and I'm hopefully on the way.  My husband and I have been married over 2 years and we can't wait to start a family.  I hope my fertility improves as the weight comes off.  I actually started spotting this week so it may be a sign of my body changing due to the weight loss.  Fingers crossed!  I usually post every few days.
