VSG Journey begins Sept 2011
Journey going well September 14, 2011 11:47 pm Anyone else in the group get sleeved and if so how are you? I am one week today and feeling better than I have in a while, Have not taken any pain drugs yet today and hope to not need anymore. 1 protein shake down today and onto my water. Swelling and water weight are gone, my ring is almost falling off and clothes feeling a little looser. Head hunger sucks, I have not been hungry since before the surgery, but when I look at grocery ads or chefs on tv making yummy dishes, it makes me crazy, like I picture myself grabbing some of that food and just woofing it. I know I can't so I find ohter things to do. Teaching myself to knit and crochet before surgery so am using that, reading, surfing net, and do household chores, walking is keeping me busy so all is well. My daughter says the head hunger goes away after while & she is 4 months out, sd it feels like chore to eat, but she is able to eat plenty & still lose she uses spark people web site which is pretty awesome has recipes smart phone apps all kinds of things to keep track of what you eat each day and exercise and videos to show you exercises and groups to join etc. Is pretty cool and is free.

Surgery Complete September 9, 2011 5:00 pm Let's go, first day after surgery I could no even crack a smile, but next day improvement was tremedous. Feeling so much better each day. I can hardly believe I was nervous. I have excellent surgeon through Grand Health Partners in Grand Rapids, MI his name is Paul Kemmeter and they have an office full of them. They are a centers for excellence with WLS. They have been doing it for a long time and are experts. Anyone needing a good WLS you will want to look inot this group. They have seminars and they really offer alot of support to you and they are there to help you through this every step of the way. They have groups there every week for everyone. They will even hook you up with a mentor. They come highly reccomended. I am finding that the strawberry and vanilla unjury is going down best. Chocolate was too thick and they added orange crystal light to my vanilla and it was too sweet. When I get home today I am going to try some Tomato Basil soup that I purchased from GHP. They have a store with the high protein foods in their facility and you can order on line and pick up, shop on site, or have it shipped. Their prices are good, even if you shop internet you will find most of their stuff is a little cheaper or the same. After being in hospital today seriously thinking about becoming a patient care assistant or maybe an RN? I really like the health care field. I like the part of caring for others. You derive so much satisfaction from it. They just removed my IV and I need to do some more laps and take a shower. I'll keep you posted and please do keep us up to date on how you are doing.
Welcome Everyone
September 5, 2011 11:10 am Thanks for joining the group. I am having surgery this week Thursday, am down 21 lbs only about 7 lbs from the 2 week pre-op diet, the rest was from trying on my own. I will be bringing my computer with me and hope to be posting something after my surgery. I will post a pict soon, just have to find one and get it on here. I want a before and after. Can't wait to get this done, my excitement is beigining to wane and fear is setting in. I know how it all works, but I think it is normal to be afraid. I was also doing a run/walk, but had to scale back to just walking. Had surgery on my left knee 6 years ago and although it will sometimes just hurt on it's own the weight really aggravates it. Squatting is hard on my knee's, I can hardly get up once down, and hurts to get back up. So once I get more of this weight off I know it will be easier to bend and squat and exercise without knee pain.
Be the first to leave a comment.LET us know how you are doing & what is going on with you. My hubby and daughter are following high lean protein healthy diet. They eat plenty of protein and small amounts of veggies, fruits, and carbs and they are having great success. My daughter uses Spark people to track her daily calories and what she is eating. She is cooking alot, she likes to try new healthy things. I hope you all have great success with your surgery and keep us posted about when you have it and how it goes. I don't always have time to log in and check the site out so I only come ot here maybe one time every week - 2 weeks, but I eventually get out here and respond to what is going in. Please feel free to get to know each other. I am married with two children, my daughter an hubby struggled with their weight all their lives and had the surgery in May 2011. I have all struggled with weight all my life. I am hoping that my struggle will be lessened with the help of this surgery. They have done excellent, daughter has lost 110-120 lbs now and hubby about 90 since before their surgeries. So nice to see them feeling better and healthier. Can't wait to begin my journey with them and with you all. I don't thinkyou can ever get too much support so the more he merrier and the better for us. I have some pretty awful memories from childhood to adulthood of people saying cruel and hurtful things due to my weight. I once had a supervisor call me in the office with her boss and tell me I should not wear the stretch knit pants I was wearing because they just did not look good on me. If I had not been 100 pounds over weight I am sure they would never had said a word even if the pants did not look good. I never felt so humiliated in my life. We had some mean neighboorhood kids tht would tease me and call me fatty fatty two by four can't fit through the kitchen door. Funny how you never forget those things, I think it is because it caused so much pain, humiliation, and shame for being over weight. SHAME is a big one for me, I had a rough childhood and adolescents so I had to learn to not feel shame for things I could not control. It's hard to let go of, but I have left much of it behind, but not all of it. Being open and talking to people on here and other support groups helps alot. I hope you all can gain some great support and we can all gain some excellent friends and help to smooth each others bumps in the road with encouragement, enlightenment, sharing, openess, and honesty about our difficult journey to take off the excess weights that holds us back from health, happiness, and or life's pursuits. Good luck to you and let us know what's going on with you. |
