That's awful! I am so lucky that my GP is 100% behind me. He even asked me some things about the band to tell another patient what banded life is like. But he told me he can't prescribe vits etc as they count as supplements not medicines and so I can only get them on the NHS if I have a deficiency - not to prevent one! But it is probably different for RNY because of the malabsorption element.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Ask to see a more sympathetic doctor or change practices.  He is lying and refuses to use the scientific method.  As over 95% of diets fail, this means that diets don't work to a statistically significant level.  Losing weight is a multifactorial problem, human beings are not machines!  Get rid of the jerk or tell him that his prejudices should remain out of the consulting room!  Best of luck!

Topic: No calcium citrate on NHS
I was told by my gp and pharmacist today that calcium citrate is not available on the nhs.  He's going to look into it for me, but I was wondering if any of you guys use it, and if so where do you get it from - or do you just stick with the calcium carbonate, which lots of posters on the main board advise against because it is not easy to absorb.

I have a real weakness with doctors -something about having to bear your weaknesses to people who don't know you makes me vulnerable.  However if I'm gonna survive this journey with my GP i'm gonna have to toughen up - a lot .

This is the same gp who would never help with any weight loss - when I worked up the courage to talk to him about my weight I was told 'its simple maths Amy, less input more output" I did wonder how I'd never thought of that before.

I saw him today as my consultant wanted me to get iron and calcium prescribed from him - he asked me how long I would be needing them for.  I said it'll be a permanent thing - he laughed and shook his head and said 'you really think this is worth is do you?'  I did say its only a couple of dietry supplements - but what I really wanted to do was burst into tears and hide in shame for all my misgivings.

I have a million different replies in my head now for all the good that does. But instead I've just gotta find another way to toughen myself up, cos I have to deal with this jerk a lot from now on.  Worst of it is, he lives 2 doors away from me, and I have to see him and be judged by him every day. Grrrrrrrr

Topic: RE: Apple/Banana/Cherry Cake
I cut this into 16 squares, so it's ideal as a snack.  Store in an airtight container in the fridge.  If you're having trouble with self-control (like me!) then you could always freeze them.  I wonder if I could make a Yorkshire Pudding equivalent....  Have fun.

mmmmmmm, I've got some over ripe banannas - but didn't wanna cook, not sure if my self control can take it (used to cook and bake a lot and eating whilst cooking is my weakest point). But as I would be able to have some of this, think I'll give it a go this week. Thx

Use UK, not USA quantities.

1.25 cups Almond Flour
two thirds cup Canderel granular sweetener
tsp baking powder
tsp cinnamon
pinch salt

2 eating apples, no peel or core, chopped small (or 2 small bananas or half cup cherries or apricots etc).
half cup vanilla yogurt
2 large eggs

Mix ingredients.  Use non-stick greased 8 inch tin.  Pre heated oven, 180C for about 25 minutes

I've used cups instead of weights as the US sites and books that I've looked at for inspiration have all used cups.  The US cup is smaller than ours, as, incidently is the US gallon.  The next time I make thisI'll weigh the ingredients, if anyone is interested.  You can use ground almonds if you can't find almond flour, and it's lower in carbohydrate and higher in protein than flour.  The baking powder gives a slight rise.  The cake with apples has a dry, crumbly texture, perfect with custard!

Atkins Advantage meal replacement bars, about 19 g protein, 1 g sugar
Myoplex Carb Sense, 31 g protein, 1.4 g impact carbs
Sci-MX Protein Flapjack, 21 g protein, 2.8 g sugar

The last bar I get from Tesco Super, the Atkins you can buy at various supermarkets and Boots.  The Myoplex I buy from the internet - Lowcarbwarehouse.  The Sci-MX is very heavy and I eat one bar for two snacks.

I seem to be able to get on all my protein or all my liquids, but not both at once.  If I ate veg it would make getting the protein in even more difficult.  You're lucky having the malabsorbtion component, I guess I'm lucky as my portion size is very restricted.  If I eat too much it simply comes back up!  LOL!!!
