Hi Kate, im up in Glasgow. My difficulty is that im only telling my immediate family and close friends so I know it will be hard to keep this secret... I know its nothing to be ashamed of , more to be celebrated but as you know in the uk its not nearly as common as in the states, maybe in time I will tell but at this stage im not ready to...
You have done increadibly well, what a role model!

Hi guys, at last!!! iv looked constantly to find a group in the UK . The OH forum has become my new addiction lol
Its just so good to be able to speak to someone who understands what your going through... Like you, im my GP's only WLS patient and I had to go private, just paid £7450 for my ban to be fitted on Sat 17th april. When I see the before and after photos I know it will be money well spent .. Topic: RE: Frustrated and blue and seriously need to toughen up

Consultants usually only prescribe short term, things we need to collect as a one-off from the hospital pharamacy. Our long term meds always come via our GPs who deal with all our day-to-day medical care. The logic is that, taking advice from the expert (the consultant),  it is the GP who monitors our on-going health.

We can and do change GPs but I do can sympathise with the idea that it is more difficult when it is someone we know outside the surgery.

But your GP should follow the suggestions of your consultant! That is why we have consultants - not just for us to consult but for the GPs to get advice as well.

Not being familiar with your medical system I can only ask if you can't get another PCP?  There's nothing worse than having to deal with the uninformed.

RNY means you will mal-absorb--therefore, you are not dealing with a "want to" you are dealing with a "have to" situation. And why couldn't your consultant take care of the cal citrate?  They can't do prescriptions?

The next time you see that supercilious twit in your neighborhood, just keep on walking and don't pay him any attention at all.

Hang in there, Toots!

Thx Kate, I appreciate your down to earth posts, sometimes I need reminding that those who shout hardest don't necessarily know everything.  Nice having you around.

I use good old Boots soluble calcium. My GP said it was fine, my nut said ti was fine, my surgeon said it was fine! To heck with the band know-it-alls! It is carbonate but has vit D and citric acid to help absorption. But I am banded not RNY.
